Replacing the exhaust system on my superbird

Hey gang,

I'm looking to replace the exhaust system from the manifolds back (except the tips) on my Bird with a 440-4

Is there any recommendations for a vendor and happy with the quality and installation (plug and play) ?

And should I go back to the H pipe or run straight duals,  currently it has duals and was that way when I bought it.

Thanks in advance.

You want it original, mufflers and all. ECS is the only way to go!

I put a complete exhaust system on my clone a while back....  440 auto car.  I ordered it from Classic Industries and it fit like a glove.  I put it in myself in an hour.  It was smooth.   Part #MB2538.   2 1/2 inch exhaust. :Twocents:

I put an Accurate LTD system on last fall.   Fit well and no problems.

You won't be disappointed with Gardner also !    :Twocents:

Be sure to check exhaust manifold part numbers for fitment before ordering.

If you're not worried about originality, TTi sells a complete 304 stainless steel exhaust system, never need to replace again.

Even if original manifolds are still on ?  Were there different ones ?

69 to 70 small change to down dump I believe on just one side. (Just check casting number, easy to do.)

Nice stuff, lots of options.. but as I stated above if he wants it OE with correct mufflers then ECS is his only choice. He just hasn't come back to tell us what detail he's after...  :scratchchin: Only real issue with ECS is you'll have to get clamps and hangers elsewhere, that is stupid, and those you get from Frank B.

ECS now has the hangers available as well as the various necessary clamps.

Thanks Richard, wasn't an available item(s) when I had Tom, Steve and David duplicate my 383 head pipes.

After reviewing all the suggestions and I don't think I can go wrong with any of the for mentioned.   :2thumbs:

I do want to keep a complete stock look with the "H" pipe after further reading.  I would like a nice sound from the system as well.

I can see ESC as being excellent quality but at this time I'm not really too worried about date correct and the pentastar, but duly noted for future reference.  Plus I'm sure my wallet won't like the prices   :icon_smile_big:

This was tremendous help

Check pricing.. can't see it being a big difference other than maybe the mufflers. Can't comment fully, as I got everything but the mufflers for free for supplying my 383 OE head pipes for reproduction.

The only good mufflers are ECS's. They are made exactly like the originals...in quality, sound etc. Also - their pipes have all the proper flats and bends.

:2thumbs: My 383 exhaust on the Bee. About as clean and OE looking as you can get, well other than the painted car bottom!

And what they sound like on a stock 383 engine... vs my stock 440 bird with what we got as replacements in 1990. Bee sounds so nice.. Bird almost quiet..

I have had 2 different cars with Accurates exhaust on them and while they fit and look good, both cars had a least one baffle comes loose in the muffler. This immediately sound like crap and required a new set of mufflers.
