It should have a 69 date.
What are the numbers on your tag?

I have a Prestolite Service manual.  It has a Manufacture equipment list.  It has always been interesting to me all the various letter designations and application.  The MOPAR parts manuals seem to stick to one part number, though there was a shift from the 4014 to the 4017 primarily based on the shift in vacuum advance cannister design.

Anyway the Prestolite book says the 4014 "G" is 1970 Belvedere manual transmission Early.  What is unique about the Prestolite book is the letter code matches up to a specific model car despite the fact the engine is the same as other B or E bodies.

The parts portion shows it as a Dodge and Plymouth, but the shaft/weight/cam/spring assembly part number is different than the typical 4014D.

There was shift from individual parts to an assembly part by this time.  Then a shift to the newer 4017 or 19 as replacements for the 4014s, probably as stock was expended, and the newer distributor was considered the equal.

Do not often see a G type from my experience.

I turned it over to Ray Brennen to be re conditioned...In his opinion and I quote " this is the holy grail of mopar distributors"  He advised that the where used in 440 + 6 motors in early applications and they are very rare.  I really don't care about the rarity.. just want it to work and be the right one that came with my bird.    Any ideas on this?

Well a bird is a belvedere.  I would really be interested in this response.  Everyone always want every part to be original to their car, when many parts where wearable and easily replaceable back then.  As far as Mopar parts manuals and other expert opinions the accepted correct distributor are a limited number of letters.  Yet Prestolite listed 4014, A thru G for RB (some were for man 440 4B, and Hemi); S after letter was a service dist.  Then 4017, A thru E.

Mopar did use the same Chrysler part number like 2875982 for both IBS-4014D and 4017A 6 pack auto.  You can find orig tags with same Chrysler number but those two IBS numbers.  And the 17AS did supersede the 14D.

I have a IBS-4014D with a date date of 18 9.  Would that be too early?
