Who has the largest Superbird/Daytona collection?

gtx6970

Outside of of a Museum ?

Not sure,
But Bob and Sharon Malcom had I think 7 ,,or was it 8 total. Plus several other cars

Not sure if they still own them as Bob had a stroke last year I think. and Sharon was in long term care.

he had them for sale piece by piece a couple years back but was always asking far to much ,,no idea if he sold any or not

Are we talking about memorabilia or actual cars? There are several people who have 5+ wing cars even right now. Many of them have had all of those cars for a very long time too.

The Malcoms have sold off a few of their wing cars in the last few years.

I believe that there are 2 different individuals that have a Superbird in each of the 7 factory colors, and one of those people has other Superbirds as well.

superbird20

Talking about real birds and/or Daytonas.

Birdflu

Apparently there is a gentleman in Canada that has over 30 wing cars. Some of which are in color/engine combinations that have never been seen before. Typical of these accrued older collections, the owner will remain unknown by most until the collection eventually gets passed on. If it's true, which I have no reason to believe it isn't based on how I was informed about it, it will be interesting to see/hear about it when the collection is exposed.

Was actually covered on The Guild's show.. he has one of every colour and then some in Alberta and he was looking for a buyer at that time. Not sure he had 30.. but DAMN close.. LOL

Saw that episode of 'The Guild'...pretty SWEET collection, but that's not the guy. This one I heard about has been and is currently hidden from the masses. Just an old guy that was hoarding wing cars since they were affordable from what I was told.

Setting a goal? Now is the time to start looking-I think some will be coming up soon, but not mine!

Good luck if so-I know where the only rootbeer one is for sale-in the back of the Winged Warrior newsletter. www.wwnboa.org No price, but I bet it is "frosty"

I remember in the early 80,s I live in St Louis, seeing and talking to owner of Root beer Superbird, didn't think much about it then. Then my interest grew with these cars and come to find out not a official color but mistake. The car was  basic 4 bbl auto with console black interior. What stuck out then and now is the owner had put  aftermarket gauges into the console lid, also owner was disabled. Never seen the car again it was Frosty then. Hope someone finds it if still around. Great site with Great people one day will own a Superbird.

There is more than 1 known FK5 Superbirds. Definitely 2 for sure, and there is also a rumored 3rd one around as well.

Bob, this 'rootbeer' color you speak of...I'm assuming it's FK5 'Deep Burnt Orange Metallic'?

I saw that episode.  He had every colour including a Petty Blue one in original paint. Quite the collection way off the beaten path on a gravel road.  ::)

PS. You can watch it on the Motor Trend app which is currently free if you have Hagerty Insurance. Show is called "Guild Garage" actually a pretty good car show compared to some.

I know of the one that was in Indianapolis some fifteen years or so ago. The owner was a good friend of mine and was unhappy with the paint so I repainted it for him. Not a restoration but a wet sand and topcoat n clear. At the time just before coming out in the Magazine as the only Root beer ever made.

1969Dodge

At the time I knew it was rare but didn't even think of taking any photos of the fender tag or while I was painting it. It was a legit bird and I remember getting the paint code off of the tag and having it mixed as a base coat clear coat formula.

At least 3 exist.
There was another south of Detroit in the 90s.
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

I concur. I saw one, in a garage, with crap stacked on top of it, in Harper Woods, MI, in 1980 or '81. At that time, I thought it was the most hideous color I've ever seen. The thing is, though, was it a repaint or original?

i recently sold some parts to a guy from Canada that has quite a collection of wing cars and hemi cars many off the radar for years he has about 50 cars in total mostly original low mileage cars he started buying them in the late 70s

I remember reading a article in a Mopar Magazine about the only known FK5 Burnt Orange (rootbeer) This seems like it was 20+ years ago. I got the magazine somewhere but with 1,000 Mopar Mags would take for ever to find. Maybe Spokes & wheels Museum in Kansas? something like that?  Ron Slobe or Januwski?LEON.
