I'm putting in a new steering gear box. Seems like I'll need to disconnect the column and pull it back an inch or so to get the shaft out of the box or is there a trick? Looks like if I remove the three bolts inside on the firewall and maybe 4 more on the cradle part I can just pull the whole column back.

Appreciate your help.

gotta unbolt the column - at least on my 68 I did...   if you pry it back without unbolting it you may accidentally collapse the steering shaft and that's no bueno
