My current setup runs very well on the 26" street tire. I have 3.23 gears in an  8 3/4 rear end.

I have a chance to grab some M/T slicks but they are 28" tall .  The extra height I know will hurt my gear ratio, but will the added traction out of the hole will help with my 60ftt.

The best the Car currently will run a 2.10 60' - 13.4 @ 105

Who wins?

Changing from a 26 to a 28 inch tire with a 3.23 will .ake the effective ratio a 2.99. If you have alot of low end torque, it may still help your 60'
26/28 = .92857142857. .92857142857x3.23= 2.99

To keep the performance the same on the 28s, you would need a 3.47, so a 3.55 gear is the closest available.
28/26= 1.0769230769. 1.0769230769x3.23= 3.47

Do you have any throttle you're holding back off the line now to avoid spinning?

Yes tons of throttle left on the table

How much are the slicks? If they are nearly free, go for it. If they are nearly new price, wait and get a pair of 26s with that gear.

Sounds like you might be recommending 28" tires with a 3.55 rear end. Hopefully, because that's what size I'm about to mount!

He was asking what tire effect had on his current gear, and what it would take to keep it the same. Personally, i like 3.91s and 28s on a street car, but thats me. Alot of people that highway drive dont like it. In general, i think a 26 inch tire on a charger feels too short in appearance. Again, opinion.

Sort of.  The question wasn't exactly what gear should I run with a 28" tall tire.  You guys have helped a lot in the past so I understand the effect of tire size and given x gear ratio.

I was more questioning the added traction benefit of a full out Drag Slick vs a street tire.

I would never run a 28" tall street tire with my 3.23 for daily driving. But running the 26" street at the track , just doesn't hold the car out of the hole... at all.  I had seen a set of 28"x9 slicks for $200 bucks and my thoughts started to run!. In the end I guess the ultimate answer to my question is get the proper size slick for the car , which would be a 26".   I just don't want them bad enough right now to pay full price ! :nana:

A quick addition, but this might be obvious to you and known.  The softer rubber makes a huge difference in traction.  I went from a 275 60 street tire that had no traction to a 255 60 that mostly holds my car.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Depending on how old they are and how much tread is left, how many passes are on them, it would definitely still improve your 60'. If they are more then 2 years old or have more then 60 passes on them, i wouldnt buy them
