May 19, 1970.
50 years ago my mom and dad brought home their Bird. Well let me rephrase that. The fact is that mom picked it up. It had to be delivered from Indy to the dealer in Southgate Kentucky.
When Dad got home from work there was this beautiful green car sitting in front of their apartment,  all locked up. Dad said give me the keys but Mom says no get in lets go for a ride, I'm driving. They went to the gas station and then White Castle. When they made it back to their apartment their friends and neighbors Kathy and Joe came out so mom took them for a ride. Dad still hasn't driven yet. When they returned mom held the keys out and said "I know what you want and it's not me".  He finally got the drive is car after more than an hour.

The next day on Dad's way to work he saw something orange in the mirror trying to catch up with him it was an orange GTO and he wanted to race.  But dad's exit for work was coming up so he went to work.  Maybe next time.

Fantastic story.  Made me realize mine too by my parents, but in early March. But nowhere near as cool a car.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Nice, so glad we all got a chance to meet over a squeaky alternator!!

Thanks for the congrats. 50 years is a LONG-LONG time. Car was always driven, never on a trailer. That is the best way to have the most fun.                   Thanks again,  Rick. :smilielol:   :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah:

Love it Rick

Time flies when having fun.  That car has to be one of the highest mileage unrestored cars going. And a good portion of it is still original paint

Ghoste

Yes, congratulations Rick and it's always great to see that car out being enjoyed the way it was meant to be.

You can see Rick's got his left arm out the door.      He wore the paint off the top edge of the door over the years.

Imagine that crew driving from northern Kentucky to Los Angeles for a national meet and back!  No air! 3 boys!
I think dad took a month off work.

Wow, a month off from work!  Not everyone could do that back then.
That's some trip, good thing the rear windows went down  :icon_smile_big:

50 years of driving and over 164,000 miles this is what you get.  Some of his  DNA in the paint and some paint in his DNA!
