Just starting the restoration of a rough 69, and I'm starting the debate on wheels.
The fender tag on this car is gone, as well as the build sheet so I am guessing at what wheels or covers it would have had from the factory.
On the rear right now are obvious 80's chrome pierced rims, but on the front are rough 14" steel rims that have the flat spots to take a dog dish hubcap.
Is there any way to tell if these steel rims are original to the car?
I'm debating between painted steel rims with center dog dish, or factory magnum 500's.

To me, no debate, I'd go with the Magnum 500's.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

the 1969 and other years steel wheels have a date code stamped by the valve stem - originals would've been 14x5.5"
