donor roof skin warping??

I am looking for the best way to go about installing this donor roof skin and appreciate your input.
Thank you

I patched the back rear window channel
I was planning on sanding the skin down to bear metal, then removing the skin.
Then rust converting both sides (inner and outer)
Then epoxy priming both sides
Then welding the skin onto the car

I am concerned about the skin warping on me, by creating to much heat when sanding using this style of stripper. (pic1)
(pic2-3) some pics of the donor roof skin,
and yes the donor skin came off of a vinyl top car but has very fine pitting which is why I plan on rust converting

I used a similar wheel to strip my car, roof included, then used POR15 to keep it rust free till ready to paint.  Then stripped it again.  No warping.

Look at this thread, reply #73 and you can see what I used.  It was mounted on an angle grinder, which is probably more powerful than your drill.  I kept track of the temps of the metal by touching it every so often.  It never got as hot as setting in the sun on a summer day.  I would guess you're good to go.  I would not use a sanding disc to strip it, those things can add a lot of heat in a short time IMHO.

Thanks Mitch,
But your roof skin was attached and you got no warping right? I am worried that mine will warp when I separate it.
I guess it would be helpful to know how someone approached this when they separated there roof skin.

I had a similar situation when I blasted a door skin.
I decided to replace it with an AMD skin. When I separated it, it warped like a pretzel!

Does anyone have any links showing how other have replaced donor skins?

it needs TOO MUCH HEAT AND PRESSURE to get it warp if you ask me. My door skins were separated from frames, worked and reinstalled without problems. Sure once removed from door frame they seemed to be warped, but once back to the frames they got back to their shape.

Quarter panels too. In fact patches were welded out of the car ( what actually would get them warped due the heat while welding ) and reinstalled

( quarter panels were made locally in Venezuela based on a NOS panel I bought from USA and just used the section I was interested trying to keep/reuse as much as the original as posible )
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

I bought a sander/buffer and sanding disks from Harbor Freight. https://www.harborfreight.com/7-in-10-Amp-Variable-Speed-Polisher-62861.html  This was suggested by painters here and worked fantastic for the entire car. 80 grit low speed and paint/rust roll off as you sweep over areas to not allow heat to build.
I sealed everything with "Rust Encapsulator" from Eastwood.  https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-black-rust-encapsulator-paint-over-rust.html Spray/brush/roll allowed easy coating and it accepts any filler or primer/topcoat. (The new Platinum I really like best.)

Read you first post again.  So the problem is not that stripping the roof will causing the warping.   Problem is separating after blasting and then realizing the stripping/blasting introduced some stress into the metal causing it to warp.  That it?

As for creating a lot of heat with that wheel, I still think the impact will be nothing.  I used my wheel to strip (off the car) front fenders, all the trunk floor parts and never saw any warping.  Blasting takes more care but you say you don't plan to blast so I would go for it

I guess that if it is a concern,  I would not cut the roof off, just clean up what I can, rust encapsulate the rest.

Yes I think that the process of removing the paint might put stress into the metal, that you wont see untill you break it free
