Engine wire harness

My engine wire harness needs to be replaced. Still works but rodents damage and too many splice. In the 80's I installed Direct Connection distributor with the orange box. A buddy recommended the modifed harness for this where  you change ballast, alternator and voltage regulator. Seems like way to go but have a concern about different alternator alignment.
Is this the way to go.

Yes, the "square back" alternators are a bit better at idle.  Evans makes the custom harness with electronic, maybe the alt too.  Best to call and ask about where the ign box would mount -he can customize it!
