Hey all,

Can anyone furnish a pic and p/n of what the correct assembly-line check valve for a bird w/440-4 should look like.

Looking at pics on the web of 440-4's I've seen some with a side port, some with a straight-on port and some with 2 ports.

Thanks

Do you know if that is original and did a 6 pk get the same as a 4bl ?

Mine on my 440-4. Clamp probably isn't correct, as I put it there, but the valve was on the car when I bought it in 1990. Can't see it being wrong..

Also pretty sure we went through this "what is correct" in MoparJohn's Superbird thread last year or the year before..

Yeah they look identical other than color.  I suppose could be different supplier too.

I was afraid of this also.  Every repop that I've been able to find so far for the b-body up to 1970 shows a side port as the main vacuum and not the straight-in.

It's bluish fading to white. I suspect it was blue originally and heat has deteriorated it. Mine on the main vacuum port face is recessed..as in there is about an 1/8" proud lip around it and MAX's looks flat faced. I'm in the plastic business... retired from the place.. but still in it after 35 years. Automotive stuff gets colour coded for various reasons for ease of assembly line without reading part numbers / vendor supply source / date code / or what raw materials you have left in house and on short order get told to use if the line is going to go down.

A lot of variables exist, even on so-called original/survivor 70 Birds, but my general observations over the years, the single side port valve present on HEMI/Sixpack cars, and the dual port on single 4 bbl cars, I've seen a few "survivor/original" 4 bbl birds that use the dual port valve with either the side blocked/plugged off or using the small side port to apply vacuum to the headlight harness/resv canister ...

This is my check valve.  Not sure if it was ever changed and is aged.  I've seen several types used as well and left me scratching my head.

Correct, the ENTIRE assy, ...booster/master/cover/bail wire/check valve should be painted black, as the assys were supplied completely assembled/painted by Bendix
