I Like the ducks.  Reminds me of all the ducks my mother in law would buy for our kids.....and the story she told about changing her mind mid sentence (she taught at college) and was going to say you lucky folks, but mid statement she decided to say you lucky ducks.  You can guess what she said.  I can still remember her laughing when she told us over the phone.

Never learned how the students reacted.  But all must have worked out just fine.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Hi XH29N0G,                15 April 2022

Your Mom-In-Law must be a remarkable Lady. You are lucky !!!

I've always liked ducks, they are cute, friendly and a pleasure to have around. My interest in the rubber duckies started about 25 or so years ago. Was walking my Dog when we passed by a neighbor's home where they were having an in-ground pool built in their back yard. I noticed a large pile of dirt from the hole they dug. Asked what they were going to do with it. They said "Dump it somewhere." I suggested my yard which was right close. They dumped all the dirt in my back yard.

A few weeks later I got around to spreading it. In the process a little yellow plastic duckie appeared. Picked it up, cleaned the dirt off, it was in perfect condition so I kept it and set it atop my computer.

Don't remember zackly when I ran across a large box of rubber duckies for sale at Walmart @ $0.99 each, any color you wanted. Started picking through them buying a few at a time. Probably have 20 or so of them. Not a big investment but they do bring me a bit of joy.

Our Jack Russell pooch "Friday" loves them. Won't let him play with them because he tries to eat them. He'll eat just about anything. Last year when we were closing in on having everything ready for our return move home to Phoenix, he managed to swallow an Acorn. It got stuck in his small intestine, which had to be removed via Emergency Surgery. 5 days in the hospital and $8500.00 later, he was and is fine. He paid his medical bill out of his inheritance; he found a job so he could replace his inheritance funds. Turned out his boss was a jerk, the job was beneath his dignity so he peed on the boss' leg and walked out. I admire him for sticking up for himself.

So that's our "Duck-Tale" (Sea Story???) for this post and we're sticking with it.

Thanks Again

Hi Folks,            16 April 2022

Went to the VA yesterday afternoon. Everyone was very nice and no waiting. We got there 30 minutes early and got right in. So now I'm fully in the Phoenix VA system. They have a bunch of nice feature for Vets, which make it easier to see specialists. Big improvement. Another nice feature is it's relatively close to home. We do have a fabulous highway system and you seldom see a cop so if'n you're in a big hurry . . . . no problema, use the go pedal instead of the slow pedal.

Sure different from Fort Worth. Don't even ask about the one in Dallas. Let's just say it isn't located in the finer section of town; you don't go there when the sun ain't shining.

Did squeeze more fresh OJ for breakfast. Used the Naval orange tree as the Valencia has been picked clean. Once all the Naval oranges were squeezed, we had a little celebration for the Orange pictured a couple posts above (post 122), then we sliced her and extracted her juice. She had so much juice she filled the juicer half full; hated to see her go. At least we have a photo of her.

Last night Dena finished my tax return for 2021. Another boot in the keister.  Guess we'll mail it today.

Tomorrow we will be at Dena's Mom's home for Easter Dinner.

Later in the day, Scott Lee will be here with a load of cars that he'll be taking north to their new owners. He'll spend the night here with us; we keep a room here for him. Monday AM he'll head back north.

That's it for today . . . . unless we think of something else even more unimportant.

Wishing one and all a Very Blessed and Happy Easter !!!!

Hi Folks,            18 April 2022

We hope you all had a very Blessed Easter and an enjoyable time with your family and friends.

Scott made it though a bit late for the family dinner. We brought a large portion of Easter Dinner home so he could have Easter Dinner here.

He left this morning for Scottsdale to pick up five more cars for folks up north; he had picked one up yesterday afternoon before he got to Dena's truck facility.

Hi Folks,                18 April 2022

A short while ago, we spoke to a Veteran friend's wife. He has been ill for some time. He passed away this morning.

Dave Johnson was a Veteran of the US Navy and the US Army. First he was a Navy Seal then an Army Chopper Crew Chief. He spent 8 years defending our country, most of which was combat while in Vietnam. He was a Real Warrior and a Real Hero. We miss him and always will.

Rest in Peace Dave. God Bless You.

You are our Hero; Thank You for All Your Sacrifices !!!

Our friend Scott sent the attached photo that clearly shows why we live in Phoenix rather than the northern states where we were born.

Today's Springtime weather here in Phoenix: Clear blue sky, 100 degrees, 4% humidity, dew point 10 degrees f, gentle breezes.

Hi Folks,               20 April 2022

Found an old gas receipt from Sam's Club Grapevine Texas dated 10 Oct 2019.

Regular 87 Octane 14.357 gal, Price/Gal: $2.01.9, Fuel Total $28.99

That was with a $0.05 Member discount. Ran across the receipt while going through papers being sorted for Shredding.

We bought a new Fellowes Industrial Shredder from ULINE. This puppy is more than three times the size of our old unit made by Royal, which we had for about 35 years. It was good but noisy, and could only handle about 6 sheets of paper. This new unit was delivered by truck and was on a pallet. It weighs about 100 lbs., is quiet, handles 20 sheets and no cool down required. With 60+ years of crap to shred this unit should handle the task.

Wondering how I accumulated so much stuff; probably from not throwing stuff out early on. A new era is it the works; the shit show has run its course.

Here it is 1056 AM, 81° f, Clear Blue Sky, little to no wind and bone dry.

That's about it for this AM.

Hi Folks,                 25 April 2022

It's been 4 months, and a few days since we arrived home. Dena and I had a project to do this AM. On the way home, as we were heading south on the 202 loop, I couldn't help but smile as we drove along with beautiful mountains in the foreground.

What a change from Dallas Fort Worth, where the only hills are highway overpasses, tall buildings in the large cities and the ugliest housing designs this side of Timbuktu.

A large portion of the homes in the mid to upscale areas have roofs that are way out of proportion (very large and steep) to the houses they sit on. You would think they belonged in the Alps.

Heavy snow in the DFW area is quite rare, so why the unsightly huge roofs. It's to make folks think they live in mansions. Here at home the roofs are low and some are flat. True southern architecture, beautiful and practical. Eight inches of rain annually is barely enough to leave puddles negating any need for steep roofs.

Thankfully we are HOME.

HI Folks,              04 May 2022

Photo resized and added to previous post.

Had Eyes checked Tuesday. Have scheduled "Cadillac" (Cataract) surgery for June. Doc is booked about 6 weeks out. They have gotten so bad I only drive when I have to and it's during mid day when the sun is mostly vertical. If I have to look into the sun, I'm blind; it's like looking through a frosted bathroom window.

I'll still have to wear glasses as one of my eyes has a problem that precludes a variable lens. Decided to go with farsighted lenses so I won't have to wear glasses when driving, just while reading and using the computer; it's what I've been doing for several years, so no big deal.

Weather has been nice, warm and dry. Have been home a bit over 4 months, about a half inch of rain during that time. One does have to adjust to not using water indiscriminately. Lawns with grass are a rarity here; mostly gravel, sand or plain soil.

Time to crash. Been a long day.

Take Care.

Hi Folks,            06 May 2022

Went back to the surgery center where I had the cancer surgery to remove a couple lesions on my melon. It had been a bit over 6 weeks since taking a chunk of my head off. There was one spot that, in my opinion, was refusing to heal like I thought it should.

The nurse came in and looked it over, cleaned it up, removed the scabbing and covered it with a bandage, She said it was healing well so I'll take her word for it now.

In going to that appointment, I missed my first eye Pre-op, which happened to be at the same time. This was unbeknownst to me until today when Dena was posting my schedule to her computer. OOPs, called the eye doc, apologized for missing my apt yesterday. They kindly rescheduled it for early next week.

It's obvious I am high maintenance. I've been seeing more doctors recently than I have in the previous five years. Kind of scary if you ask me. Could it be I'm wearing out; hopefully, it's only neglected routine maintenance. Yeah, that's it, can't have anything to do with eating too much junk food and skimping on sleep; one only needs four hours a day, right?.

Been getting my buns chewed out lately about my bad habits so I'm going to try real hard to straighten up and do as I'm supposed to do. Will let you know how it all works out.

Take Care.

Hi Folks,             11 May 2022

I like months like May, only three letters to type and almost impossible to misspell.

Went to the eye doc yesterday for my first pre-op, which is for the first eye. Looks like we are going to use all the high-tech gizmos for this project. First eye will be the right one when looking out or in the mirror; you know the one I'm talking about, just hope the doc does. This will be his second surgery so I'm sure he has mucho experience. His fee is cheaper than everyone else, he's doing this as a favor for Our Cousin Vinny on my side.

The actual surgery is scheduled for 06 June, then he's going to do the second one on the 27th. By 06 July I should have my rebuilt eyeballs completely installed and functioning as well as one can expect from rebuilds.

Once this project is complete we should be able to get back to the cars, speaking of which, we had la troka serviced yesterday.

You know the usual stuff, oil, filter, air in the weenies. I don't know where I've been since the last time, this time it was $130.00. They charged by 1/10th of a quart. When did all this happen, charging by tenth's? Probably looks better on the invoice. Whoever heard of $130.00 oil changes? Now I have. Learning curves are expensive.

Maybe since I haven't driven a lot in the past few years, the price increases have escaped my notice. Come to think of it, my last oil change was a few years back. Prices may have gone up a tad since then. Once we vote Jimmy Carter out of office, things will get better. Guess I need to start paying more attention to what's going on in this world.

That about wraps this update for today.

Not quite a wrap. Here are the facts:

Oil Filter:                                                $7.99
5 Qts    5W-20 Syn                                $77.99
2 Qts additional  @  $1.56 per 1/10 Qts   $31.20
Labor                                                     $5.49
Used Oil and Filter Recycling                    $2.99
With shop supplies and tax total =        $136.40

Probably standard in the industry.

A bit later went to the drug store to buy Bayer 81mg aspirin 300 tabs / bottle $17.99. Wanted the bottle they come in because the bottle has many uses and is worth the extra $$ dinero.

Hi Folks,              22 May 2022

Yesterday our Trusted Loyal Companion Ella passed away. Yesterday morning she was having trouble breathing. We rushed her to the Emergency Pet Hospital. They found a large mass on her liver that appeared to be putting pressure on her heart. She was fading fast and we made the difficult decision to let her pass peacefully.

We Love Her and Miss Her as do our two other Pups, Her Loyal and Constant Companions.

Until We Meet Again, We Love and Miss You. Thank You for All You Gave Us. God Bless You Ella.

Thank You Clint, You are so right, we do not deserve them. They are loyal to a fault.

Ella followed me around like my shadow. Now that she is gone, the place seems empty and the two little pups seem lost.

We did not let them see her for fear they would go into a funk. In 1996 one of our two small dogs died and I let the surviving pup see her friend and she almost died. She became ill and wouldn't eat or drink. It turned out she had Addison's insufficiency. It took 7 weeks and $25K to figure out what the problem was. A sordid story, finally was resolved at Texas A & M Veterinary Teaching Hospital at a whopping cost of $179.00 after visiting every "Expert" in the Dallas Fort Worth area and wasting $25K on worthless opinions. All they would have needed to do was check her electrolytes. Needless to say I was ticked at her vet for waiting so long before suggesting A & M.

We'll never forget Ella and we know we will see and be with her again.

                    The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Hi Folks,                  27 May 2022

We have a more definitive diagnosis of what took Ella's life: Hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive rapidly growing, highly invasive variety of cancer that occurs almost exclusively in dogs and is always fatal. It can occur in humans due to Vinyl Chloride toxicity.

By the time symptoms present, the prognosis is extremely poor, resulting in death. If you're interested look up Hemangiosarcoma on Wikipedia. Here is the link:

Hi Folks,               03 June 2022

Cell phones have become ubiquitous and so have the towers polluting the landscape. Someone here in Arizona has developed a revolutionary cell tower. It blends well with the environment and has a tendency to grow.

Dena and I were out a couple weeks ago and spotted this new phenomenon that we hope will spread, at least here in the south. Up North it would look out of place, but, might warm some cold old hearts.

Hi Folks,                  08 June 2022

Two days ago, 06 June 2022, I had my right eye rebuilt, a new long distance lens installed and the astigmatism corrected. This was outpatient surgery, about 90 minutes in all.

Yesterday 07 June was my first post op exam. Doc was very happy with the results. When I got up in the AM, I sat down to this PC and noticed my computer glasses didn't work for me. Took them off and I could see the small print on the displayed Icons, looked to the right out the window and could see everything clearly with my right eye. Everything was brighter and clearer than I had seen it during the last 25 years or so.

My surgery utilized a relatively new laser device which did most of the surgery with the doctor monitoring its every move. I will get the technical data and post it later.

So far this has been a remarkable experience. I was awake during the complete procedure only being slightly sedated so I wouldn't jitter around while the machine was working on my eyeball. It was an interesting light show while the machine opened the eye sack containing the old lens, which it then softened and then pulverized so the surgeon could suction it out of the sack. It then installed the new lens.

On the 27th of this month they will repeat the procedure for the left eyeball.

The use of the laser device added about $900.00 to each procedure. So far the results indicate money well spent. Being a seasoned citizen, Medicare and my Medigap insurance pay for most everything. My out of pocket is about $1,900.00. I did not opt for the expensive lenses that allow the eyeball to adjust the focus. Those lenses add about $4,000.00 to each eye. My left eye has a problem that precluded that lens so I opted to have the same lens in both eyes.

Hopefully, I'll be able to drive without corrective lenses and the use of reading glasses for close up work won't be anything new.

Take Care

Hi Folks,               10 June 2022

This is a short story that is yet to have an ending.

It starts at Dena's truck yard / facility. Many tenants there provide services to the trucking industry. Yesterday, Dena received a call from one requesting a security camera. Seems they have been having gasoline stolen from the 40 gallon tank they use for their various gasoline powered machines.

This has been going on for a couple days. The day before yesterday they decided to replace the gasoline with water and a bit of gasoline floating on top. Sure enough, the 40 gallon tank had been emptied again.

So now the saga will have to wait until we find out how the thieves are doing. Did they sell the water to their customers? We are hoping to find out today. We'll be on the lookout for black eyes and busted noses.
