Trunk lid lip profile

So I got a little aggressive cutting out the rust before figuring out the profile of the lip first.  The trunk lid is facing down and Im trying to figure out if the orange line area is supposed to flat to line up with the tail light pannel or if there is a slight curve to it like how the lip is on top.   Should the ruller lay flat?   Thanks.
