Good Afternoon,
What can you northern guys tell me about Ziebart Protection in and around 1970? How was it applied? Did it help or hurt?
Thanks

Bronzedodge

My 69 got it.  They covered half of the front valence.  Entire underside of the car, a good bit under the hood but no as bad as others I've seen.  Lower control arms, frame rails.  My car has a bit of rust in the quarters, but it was daily-driven for the first 10 years of it's life.  It helped for sure.
Mopar forever!

Ziebart protection was used alot in the middle west too !!

Not sure if all packages included it, but some cars I have had with it had numerous small holes drilled into the body for them to spray the stuff in inaccessible areas. They would pop a plastic cap into the hole that had their logo on it.

I am not sure what the deal was with Ziebart. I grew up in a city in New England that had Ziebart's. While it was popular in the 70's, but the early 80's the cars still rotted out. Our Ziebart's were gone by the mid 80's.

Now I live in the midwest and there are still Ziebart's around. People in this area swear by them.

if the Ziebarting stuff was done when the car was  brand new  just out the show room &  the car had not been out it the rain yet & or thoroughly dried out ie warm climate , & the ziebart  guy  painted the bare metal after he  drilled the holes & put sealer on the plugs  before fitting them , then its a big plus ! the stuff to have , only down side is  plastic plugs every where .  :Twocents:

other side of the coin is, if none of the above was done / practiced , the ziebart gear would trap moisture / water / damp & rot out in some cases quicker , also  if the bare metal from the hole being drilled was not painted / primed & sealer put on the plugs before install , have seen the metal rot out round the plug & or  see rust creep ( spiderwebbing) under the paint in 80s

if a car has survived 45 + years after being done , its prolly been  done correctly . :shruggy:

My brother worked in the late 70's for a company called Ming.  They did the same Rust proofing plus put a protective coating on the paint called the Ming Mirror finish.
