Neutral safety switch

Working on a 69 Charger 440 auto.  The wire harness for the neutral safety/reverse light switch only has two wires in the connector at the switch.  It was not hooked up. I purchased a new 3 wire pigtail and a new switch. The problem is when I screw the switch down tight and shift the transmission the whit plastic plunger on the switch gets caught between the fingers of the selector and locks it up.

Also when the shifter is in park the finger depresses the reverse button correctly but when taken out of park and attempt to go back the finger hangs up on the reverse button and won't allow further travel.

The previous owner had grounded the firewall relay so that it would start in any gear.  Reverse lights are not hooked up. I guess I know why now.

I'm told that the transmission is out of a 1970 383 car. PK 3410668L   I've tried looking for different switches but they all look like the same ones. Part# NS11, NS11T and 1S4937.

I'm wondering if the selector arm inside the transmission is the wrong one or missing something.   :shruggy:

There are numerous reports of new reproduction NSS's (top in pic below) being too long and this will account for your problem.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks!  Any idea where to find a replacement rooster comb?  It looks like it's riveted on.  So possibly have to replace the selector shaft itself?  I was wondering if something was missing.

The switch is also maybe too long.  Damn cheap Chinese parts!  I think I have the old one that may still work if I can get the nylon part replaced.

Anyone know of a source for parts?

I don't think the lenght or deep of the switch could be a problem on this specific issue. The nylon button is just a preload system while the ball serves the dual switch function ( reverse and neutral ground )

Now about the nylon skate. It is serviceable, just drilling the rived and using a new one. I know it was available somewhere sometime ago, but can't recall who has those
