Fender install - J-bolts for hood hinge ? ?

I'm installing my fenders on my '69 Charger after painting, but don't recall the bolt install & J-clips for the hood hinge.

To test, I put a new after-market J-clip in the fender where the upper-bolt on the hood hinge installs, but it seems like it adds too much thickness -- causing the fender to door/cowl distance to be too wide.

Is is correct to put a J-clip there ? or is it bolt/nut ?

Perhaps I need to use the old OEM J-clip that seems thinner (see photo -- one on Left) ?

Thanks for the help... Jack

looks like mine, line up the fender & tighten all of the fender bolts, tighten that one last, also the factory used a strip caulk between the fender & inner,

Ok, thanks for confirming on the J-clip.  I might use an old one in that location since they are thinner.

Not sure I want to use strip caulk though !  That would be a mess to work with....   I'll live with any gapping..  lol.
