  thought this was interesting ,
i don't know  much about cylinder head desgine & flow ,  only really know enough about  gasket matching & porting  with MP templates & a bit of polishing to get by  :P , this guy makes some interesting points , its a wonder 440 source did not address these problems   :shruggy:
mayve i should of posted this in the Engine section  :shruggy:  mods feel free to move as required

I believe the CNC program from 440 Source itself might be quite good ?
however,
I would agree the ancilliary work on the Heads as delivered OOTB may be detracking from the finished product results ?

We apply our own Valve & Seat Angles/Prep and Full Street Porting done here.... and we see very similar Exhaust numbers(identical) ?
however...
our Intake Port is a far steeper Flow curve at 255 cfm @ .400", 284 cfm @ .500", and 296 @ .600" Lift on our SF750 Bench ?

I don't test much above .600" because we just don't utilize those Heads with those camshafts ? WHY ?

oh right ok  :coolgleamA: thanks for the information

your intake flow  of 284cfm @.500" is a good number

your intake flow  of 284cfm @.500" is a good number

Took awhile to get there.... but IMO, that .500" Flow is why we were able to see 545 hp and 562 ft/Lbs on the Dyno with a .030" over 440... using just a .507" Lift run of the mill Comp Cams XE284 Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam ?

It's using that .500" Flow ?

great video, BUT the 440 source head is a budget head, the combustion chamber is WAY better than a 906 head, at least it does give you an easy path to quench, could it be better, YEP, is it an old design YEP, but when these came out there was not much available as far as low cost BBM alum heads, they are still a good head for the intended purpose, they are NOT a race head, I have them on my junker & I had to do a LOT of port work on them to get where I am, that said they fit my budget at the time, would I like to have a nice modern heart shape combustion chamber ??? sure I would but that small combustion chamber would make my compression WAY to high even with the - 24cc pistons I have, I am 9.7-1 now, I can run on pump gas, lets say a Heart chamber is around 76 cc that would make me almost 11-1 , that wont work down here in Southeast Texas. , I am well over 630 GROSS flywheel hp, there is a big difference from NET flywheel to Gross, about 60 HP, so I have shitty combuston Chambers, to small of a intake valve & bad exh ports & the spark plug is in the wrong place, it all works for my combo.

I never realized till now that the 440 source head is the most faithful reproduction of a big exhaust valve 915 head. Down to the shape of the chamber, unfortunately. I always wondered why edelbrock didn't use an updated chamber design?

They did, the 75 cc estreet , RPM, head has a heart combustion chamber somewhat , the Victor IS heart shaped,

I knew the Victor has a nice chamber, but it's been a long time since I looked into the E-street head. Good to know!
