I am assuming would need the ECU, gauges, etc.
And major work to the floor to fit.

What kind of money / incestment to get the drivetrain and parts from a totaled Challenger or charger and do?

Hey now.....that shit isn't tolerated in a civilized society.

Ha ha....
You may have seen stories where these drivetrains are installed by professionals in custom shops.
A regular guy can do it too BUT you will need help with the electronic end of it. Part of what makes new cars perform so good is the electronics. When guys first started these swaps, Ma Mopar was an absentee landlord and offered ZERO help. Guys had to modify stock harnesses. Have you ever seen the mess that a stock harness can be? Hundreds of small, thin wires of numerous colors. Many new cars required that EACH stock sensor be functional for the engine and trans to run like normal. Yeah, even the taillights from the donor car had to somehow be connected.
Diablosport is an aftermarket tuner company that has some real sharp guys on the payroll. They cracked codes in the software that Mopar wouldn't do for anyone.
Good luck.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Here's the wiring and computer for 2013 and later 5.7 Hemi swaps. You can find it cheaper and have it customized to your needs.

Just an idea.

Since it is close to what you are trying to do.
If I had to do it over again, I'd go with a Holley Terminator X computer and harness to run the engine.
I'd then call Russel Drake to get his controller to run the transmission.
Done and on the road no issue.

Also I'd suggest trying to find a wrecked car with the engine/trans combo.
I did that for my swap, found a 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona that was wrecked and picked a lot of parts off I needed for the swap including -
Drive by wire pedal
Shifter
Engine
Transmission
Radiator and fans
Air conditioning condenser
Power steering reservoir
Etc.
I then installed a aftermarket fuel system with tank and lines and in-tank pump setup.

Damn.  I think with a couple of other projects,
I am going to skip a new LA let alone doing this and maybe let it go.
