Pretty sure either or will work. Mine has a sender in both locations, and neither works! ;)55555555555

the proper sender is normally pointing forward behind the alt mount plate

Most 68's had them pointing strait forward, 69 and on up could have the two prong style strait up.
This 68 440 out of a Chrysler has both. But strait forward is more common.

:icon_smile_shock: :icon_smile_shock: :icon_smile_shock:      Reading this post and it hit me.   I have a 68 Charger with the 68 440 style sending unit.   While restoring the car I used parts and pieces from a 69 dash, namely the temp and fuel gauge.   Could this be the reason they don't read correctly?

doubtful , the guages didn`t change year to year
