Wow, the vinyl top moldings are almost identical to those on my car.  And based on the VINs they were likely built within a day of each other.  217160 and 217195.

Editorial comment: I still have the broadcast sheet for 217190, awaiting the current owner to contact me.  It was in my back seat.

Hi Tan Top,                 29 June 2022

Hope all is well.

This 1969 500, is it For Sale? If so, what is the asking price?

We thought the Charger 500 was a 1969 model. According to the sales flyer, this is a 1970 Charger 500; it hasn't anything to do with NASCAR. The original Charger 500 preceded the 69 Daytona and was a 1969 Model. If this is a 1970, we doubt it has the same value as a 1969 Charger 500.

The VIN indicates 1969 so the sales flyer is in error.

We see lots of rust, incorrect radiator, Seats w/o head rests, Fender tag disaster, Non matching #'s, etc.

This is a big project that we doubt will return the cost of restoration. Not knowing the asking price makes it even more iffy.

It has Indiana plates on it indicating it has had a lot of salt exposure. That being the case there is a potential for hidden salt damage. We wouldn't touch it unless it were free, and that's a stretch.

The exhaust pipes and fuel tank look nice.

With today's crazy prices, it wouldn't surprise us it went for $75K; a lot to pay for a new non stock exhaust and new fuel tank.

No offense intended; just don't see much value in it for anything other than a parts car . . . .  and not a good one at that.

What the heck do we know???

If it was an R/T folks would be tripping over each other to buy it.  Not sure why a 500 should be worth less.

As Hemichick would say it just needs to be sent to Roger Gibson for a proper correct resto at the price of $375k but for this rust bucket it would probably be $475k plus the $55K+ to buy it, You'll have $530k into it when done. Then how much could you sell it for? LEON. :shruggy: :slap:

I'm with Tan Top and Rallye Mike. Skip Roger G. Get it operable. Drive the hell out of it. Those few people who actually know what a Charger 500 is will really dig it. It will probably be the first one they have seen in the flesh. Half the people who've seen my faded 500 tell me to never paint it, and continue to drive it as is.  Worman even made a slot car of it.

aerolith

Nice Charger 500!

Do a bit more research and don't call it a 1970 car... :slap:

Good colour and nicely optioned if you could read the fender tag?

My C500 was the last one made on December 19th 1968...

The original block is a 1968 September casting (so 4 months before) and is an XS fender tag.
XS block stamping and XX dash tag... :popcrn:

I think $50K is very fair indeed, as I got $45,000 for mine last year (with better all round condition) pre war lol... :girlfight:

My fc7 v code, A34, 4 gear coupe Super Bee was the last V code, 2nd to last overall Bee outta St. Louis according to GG.
It had all sorts of '69 parts.  They threw whatever was leftover in the parts bin at it.

Cool car but no way I can't drive bench seats anymore.  The left hand corners put me in the pass. seat, lol.

Wow...just wow.

I was offered $80k for my full tag, fc7, all #'s, all #'s parts with $25k spent on current drivetrain driver by a prominent Charger restorer not long ago.
Thats why my car will never be offered to the public when I pass.  My close mopar friends know what its worth so my daughter doesn't get shafted.

Half stripped out cars always look bad!

My Moparmate reassembles all his 'project' cars 'for sale' as buyers can't see what they are buying?

If you tell folks ''it needs a new floor'' then they picture 'a few' rust holes.

Unlike this car that needs a FULL 'carpet' to cover this up, as the hubcap is way 'too small' lol...

Hi Folks,              21 July 2022

Sorry to say, but this rust bucket is a disaster looking for a place to happen. Apparently it was sold so the place to happen is now with the buyer.

Let's face it, the American dollar isn't worth much these days. $50K today buys what $20K bought a couple years ago.

If you want a good restoration, you need to start with something other than a bunch of rust holes. Probably the only valuable things on that car are the Fender and Vin tags, a few salvageable drivetrain parts and glass. Gotta start with something.

We doubt Roger would even consider restoring this hulk. It would require a couple ten yard dumpsters just for the non salvageable parts (read that as the whole mess).

We hope we're still around when this "Survivor" emerges from a resto shop; it could end up being the Eighth Wonder of the World (currently there are seven).

Good luck new owner, hope your Piggy Bank can afford your dream machine.

A side question, I looked and looked but could not see any torque boxing.  Was that not used till 69 or later.?  Or was it just an aftermarket addon?  Somebody educate me.

Hi green69rt,                 22 July 2022

We had 3 Mopar's that had Torque Boxes. All were Hemi's; 68 Road Runner, 69 Daytona, 70 Cuda. They were standard on Hemi cars. There are reports that there may be a couple Hemi cars that didn't get them and a 440 Daytona that has them.

We did see a "supposed" Hemi Daytona that didn't have them. We posted on that car several times on this site. We believe it was a phony because the dealer we talked to had a ready answer of why they were missing: "Chrysler stopped putting them on cars after 1968." We told him our 68, 69 and 70 Mopar's had them. The car is still out there though we don't know where. We are not the only ones that know of the car.

Folks have tried to fake them; fairly easy to detect if you have seen the real ones. To our knowledge there were no part numbers for them where you could order them from a dealer. Also, all Hemi Cars came with a skid plate on the Cross Member; quite distinctive.

Hope this answers your question.

Hi green69rt,                 22 July 2022

Looked over every photo on this thread. No torque boxes, no skid plate. Never a genuine Hemi car, even if it had had a Hemi at one time.

This is a case of "Lipstick on a Pig" though the Lipstick is lousy and this pig is in its "Death Throes."

Maybe the buyer sees something we don't see; all we can say is: "Condolences."

Hi Folks,                  23 July 2022

Still up. This heap of oxidized metal is haunting us. This once beautiful car has been subjected to "Classic Car Abuse" similar to Child Abuse (no lectures please, know more about it than most). Had this car been stored somewhere other than in an environment exuding extreme moisture, it would be in much better shape. Its 53 years old, and looks "Worser" than me.

Went back and looked over the photos; it has a cracked windscreen. This is stuff that's relatively easy to see. The environment it apparently "Thrived" in for the past 50+ years may have caused more hidden damage than one can find with only a visual inspection.

Sure glad we didn't have any hair-brained thoughts of rescuing it. Like we said, we wouldn't want it if it were free. We do feel Sorry for the car; it didn't do anything to deserve its current fate.

Taking a break for a spot of tea.

Just brewed a cup of Twinings Ceylon Orange Pekoe Tea. Good stuff, difficult to find in food stores.

We hope the new owner bought this with both eyes wide open and that they have deep pockets, they're going to need them. Sorry we can't help, we're all tapped out.

Take Care

All it needs is another 75 large (on top of the purchase price) and it'll look as good as new!

Hi Mytur Binsdirti,               25 July 2022

Yeah, and a 55 gallon drum of Bondo.

It could probably be restored, but at what cost and what would it be worth when finished?

Most likely one could buy one already done for close to what the rust queen would cost to just clean up.

Save your money and buy a truck load of Vegas, sell the backlights then scrap out the remainder.
