Poor car.
What a mess.

Inside the pass quarter looks like a patchwork quilt

nascarxx29

I noticed the old school slide dent puller holes that worm out with bondo repairs. On pass inside quarter.A magnet test would see how much bondo on it.I.was impressed to see quarter extension and drainage plugs still intact

No fender tag .
But the #926 job number and scheduled build date generally only found on the fender tag or buildsheet. Is on the daytona shiplist .Everything else after is just regular option codes.A tag could be correctly recreated with all this info. And usually daytona have no buildsheet or the wrong one in the car. A local daytona 355104 had 2 sheets it's correct one and rumored to have had another 355140's

All of its panels original nose etc and matching numbers & factory correctness details.

Would out weigh tag and sheet missing.Id think.Fix the gauge cluster and heater core

My old daytona fender tag was bad.But was able to chalk dust back side and use  mirror for the codes and other info was on shiplist. But the correct sheet was found later in the car

Notice the body line above the wheelwell has a good hoopy in it. The underside, engine and aftermarket radiator are far from being considered unrestored

Hi Folks,                 03 September 2022

Took real talent to use a dent puller. Prolly a good chunk of Bondo on that fender.

Anyone have an idea what it's worth (whatever a buyer is willing to pay for it) and what it will bring at auction?

Hood looks like it was used to store batteries. Something ate the paint big time.

Ain't a Hemi.

Did the latch tray on a Daytona have the spring on it to get the hood to pop up a little after you pull the hood pins so you can get a hold of it to open ?

Passenger quarter definitely does not pass a magnet test. There was an engine fire at some point, hence the rust on underside of hood, and how it ate through on the top side.

I looked at this car 2-3 years ago. It was still owned by original owner at that time. I offered him $150k for the car. He was not interested in anything less than $200k as it sat. I walked away.

Personal opinion but all the work that has been done to it in the last year and a half needs to be striped off and done again. There was a lot of neat details on the car before they went in and did a cheap attempt of a back yard resto on the car. It was better off before they started working on it. All they did was work that needs to be redone, and now at twice the cost.

Again my opinion, the car isn't worth more than $175-180k in today market. I know the seller likes to spout off saying if you can find another for cheaper he will buy it. There is currently another 4 speed car for sale for less money.

He say's no rust, no rust holes & solid Body, I'm sure once you grind down all those rust bubble on pass side lower quarter panel their will be many rust holes or 1 big rust hole. even with out all that rust on lower quarter it's bad enough to need replacing. LEON.

P.S. I like that curved :puke: body line made out of Bondo over wheel well opening :eek2:

Hi 69_500,               03 September 2022

This explains the messed up hood:"There was an engine fire at some point, hence the rust on underside of hood, and how it ate through on the top side."

Was wondering what happened to the fender tag, now we know. The fire probably messed up more than what is visible. Fire surely didn't do the body/frame metal any favors. After all, it is a Uni-body.

IMNSHO, Seems to be a parts car. Think the seller has been smoking rope.

If you were going to do all that work to the engine bay, why wouldn't you put the washer bottle in and have heater hoses to the heater core?

It's a great car that deserved a better fate but it unfortunately wound up with the wrong flipper. His rattle car "improvements" screwed up parts of the car's originality and pretty much everything recently done to the car will need to be redone. I said just as much on one of his Facebook posts and struck a nerve with the clown. That exchange is where he originated his "chinesium" schtick in a rant comparing this car to my own, totally missing that the critique was of him and not his car.

Hopefully he finds a buyer that appreciates the car. Even more so, hopefully no one directs him towards another aero car for him to muck up. He is the same person that flipped the red Superbird a while back. That was yet another car that would have been better off having never passed through his hands.

THIS is why Flippers piss me off.  To them, it's not about the car, the history or the future of its existence.   It's about one thing and one thing only.  Money.  They will tell you what you want to hear until they have your car, then they forget everything they said and flip it just to put a few bucks in their pocket.   Creeps.   All of 'em.

I wish he left the under carriage alone & original, he messed that up in my opinion. Yes, you'll need to redo what he did but by then you might as well just redo the whole car. If you restore the whole car right, wouldn't you have more into it then it's worth? :shruggy: :slap: :brickwall: LEON.

Hi LEON,               03 September 2022

Think you've nailed it. Maybe someone who really wants a Daytona and has deep pockets will buy it and treat it to a proper restoration by one of the masters. By the time it's completed they may have more in it than it's worth. If that's not an issue then more power to the buyer and another Daytona rescued.

Pretty easy (and pretty common) these days to have far more $ into your project than it's monetary worth. For many, that's not the point.

Hi Clint,               05 September 2022

I've known folks that go on vacation and spend thousands of $$$. When they return home what have they got, Sun Burn, receipts, memories and maybe a disease or two.

It's kind of nice having that big shiny, noisy, chunk of steel sitting there waiting for one to take it out for a romp.

There's an old saying that doesn't apply well in our case but it'll get the point across:

"The difference between men and boys is the price of the toys."

"He who dies with the most toys Wins."

We had our Daytona for 48 years, the last 41 of which she just sat in our garage. A great satisfaction we had from owning her was when a very wealthy convicted felon wanted to buy her. We didn't want him to have her so we wouldn't budge on our asking price. To us his money was dirty and we didn't want it. Who bought her was most important. Fourteen years later she found a great new home.

Tomorrow I have an appointment at Dr. Davis' office. Now that I can see, I need some road work done. Yes, they are open on Labor Day, probably because this is a "Right to Work" State.

Take Care amigo, Give Josie a few love pats for us.

God Bless You All.

You have some of the best quips on here!

It sounds like we are in complete agreement in that there is much more to life, and to these cars which we are passionate about, than the monetary aspect.

Josie says hello.

Ill be nice and just say he fucked up alot of the originality of the engine bay in his rush to be an idiot.  plus everything else he touched on the car   , he should have left it alone
He's just another chevy guy who is now a flipper .

Hi Clint,              08 September 2022

We say Hello to Josie as well.

Thanks Clint, hopefully we cause a few chuckles along the way.

Even though we spend money on our cars, unlike boozing, we ultimately do get a return on investment. Of course, the same can be said for boozing, which may return cirrhosis of the liver among other ailments. We'll stick with our cars.

Take Care, God Bless and a Big Hug for Josie

Hi Stuart,                08 September 2022

Were you in the Navy? Reason I ask is we speak the same language so I understand exactly the point you wanted to make.

Take Care.
