My grill was in a terrible condition, was cracked/missing pieces/ painted with aerosol paint/fiberglass repair.etc etc..
Center piece was loose all the smal ribbons holding it to the grill frame was cracked ??? ???

Anyway, i tought i would paint it in the original colors but then i started painting ;D and i want some opinions from you guys.
Maybe keep the center black, and the rest chrome..

I also will be swapping the vacum headlight doors for some smal linar DC aculators.

I just did the same thing with the headlight doors.  I ordered the actuators from Godfather customs.

That car is going to be great.

Thanks, i really had to search for the right actuators.
I was thinking i could use a doorlock motor, but they only have a 7/8 stroke, and i needed 2" stroke.
I found this one http://www.jovac.as/oldweb/index.htm.

I found the other style that screw up and down( need picture to explain it better ), but the ones I got are from a trunk lock.  They get the door to open and close, that is all I was worried about.

I will get some pictures when I get a chance.

When I painted my 68 grille a few years ago, I kicked around the idea of totally blacking out the interior grille pieces. I like the looks of that with just the surrounding silver part to contrast it.  :yesnod:

ChargerAndy

Im not sure what I think, better ship it to me for closer inspection heh heh  ;D  Dude, your car is gonna be a rocker, the grill looks great, keep up the great work brother! Andy ( BTW, my grille is the weak point of my car  :rotz: )

Looks new.     Looks in great shape.      Curious, has anyone ever seen a '68 with the center (black) part of grill painted another color, like royal blue on a black car,?

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

NorwayCharger

Some more progress.
I have powder coated the metall, and will do some fabrication for the actuators to fit

I think the "chromed" sides look great!

In fact, I've suspected for a long time that the "chromed" appearance is probably what the factory really had in mind for these grilles when they designed them.  If you look at what areas of the grille the factory painted silver, and look at what areas are covered in "chrome" trim, that's the impression I get.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Great job!

Now I wanna do that to my 1969 grille.

hey norway, you still using that "mirachrome" stuff?  It looks great!!!!

The video is great.  I looked at the web page you posted for the actuator, but I did not understand the language.

How far down do the actuators sit at the bottom??

I can't wait to see that car complete.

They are aprox 4" longer than the original i ordered one set of actuators that is 2" shorter, but they where out of stock.
This one is overkill has a push torq of 140 lbs!!.
I made some brackets that fit in the original place
You can get the actuators from people building electric wheelchair etc. http://www.concens.com/ http://www.jaeger.com.tw/

Hey fellas that thread is a couple years old.  Norway had a fire and his shop and car burned.  He's rebuilding right now and the shop looks fantastic and he's doing a "six million dollar man" on his 68 as well.

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,56293.0.html
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

:o Yikes! $1300/gallon! At least they sell it in small amounts too. Don't imagine you'd need that much for a grill surround... :scratchchin:

So did anyone find actuators sourced from the States on these.  I know its an old thread but I am curious.  Tim
