This is our old 69 Hemi 500 that my dad purchased from a friend of Big Willies for $60.  Car has the same plates that were on Queen Daytona at one point.   Also these plates were for the 500 as
Daytona's never got Black California plates
..

..

Wonder why that is daytonas didnt get black license plates a CA thing??.When we used to live in Northridge Ca in 69 I remember our family cars having the black on yellow plates.I dug up info on Ed Ryans daytona that was used in the ADAM 12 episode WHO WON 1972.That was the original owner hemi daytona sold from Canoga Park Dodge. And I got additional info when Jim Radke confirmed that car was Ed Ryans I was checking up on.I got to rewatch that video and see what he has for plates. But I did go on the site selling that Hemi daytona it has Blue on yellow 596BIY.And the Keith Black LA Dodge Daytona I think has blue on yellow plates.Interesting but why the color plate change

Blue California plates came out in Sept of 69.   The first Daytona to get shipped to Ca was 8-16-69 so by the time the car was delivered and sold it is possible but I have NEVER seen a Daytona with Black Plates.  The earliest Daytona that I know of that sold new is CA is  410761 and it was shipped on 8-20-69 and it had Blue California plates 838-GFO and it is the 21st Daytona on the shipping list.   The Keith Black Hemi Daytona 's original plates were also Blue CA plates number 401-AKC

On the yellow car there is no way to tell what year the plate is by this picture.  The black plate was used from 63 through late 69.   X Y Z on the first didget were used for mid-late 69s

Ok I see our Ca car was XYR-807.I might still haved saved the plate.I guess by the old style gas pumps and background it should be a retro 69 picture featuring the daytona?

I had Big Willie's plates that were on Queen Daytona and on the Hemi 500 till about 6 months ago.  A guy stopped by the house and was looking for Black CA plates.  I sold them for $50 not remembering what they came off of.  Later I was on my computer and looking through old pictures and saw the plate numbers.  I never got that guys number.  GRRRR

The picture is from a vintage magazine article about "blown" cars.  I think the car is the Ed Ryan/BestofShow car, were any of the other so-cal HEMI Daytonas orange?  My guess its rear plate is 596 BIY.

Big Willie's 4 Speed Hemi was V2 also.  But I think that car looked stock only when it was sitting on the Dealers lot..

Hello Dave,   I had gotten Steve Marinoff and Steve Hargrove mixed up when I read your note.   They both had Daytona's and HEMI 500's.  I was with Marinoff at these events I wrote about.   I was going to email you but I don't have your Email.   What time did you leave the show?  We were there till 5 ish.  So hot that day.  I ran into a guy right after we talked that just purchased a pretty nice 6barrel 4 speed bird for under 20g.  I shook his hand and congratulated him  What a lucky guy.

Thanks NascarXX29 that's my car on the list 410768...unfortunately the car no longer wears its 461 AEX
plates. The front plate and bracket were stolen off the car when my Dad was driving it daily. It now
has ugly white plates on it. I picked up a bracket from M. Morris recently.

I left the show about 10 AM. I like to get down there early and watch the cars drive in and then breeze
through the swap. I can't do the all day stuff. There's a great article on Marinoff's 71 Hemi Cuda in
the new Musclecar Milestones magazine. Under 20 G's ... Wow!!!

THese are great posts. I am very good friends with Willie, and I speak to him several times a week.I keep him updated on nice things people say about him. I got him to be the Grand MArshall of the Streetcar SUper NAtionals in VEgas last November. He will also be at MOpars at the Strip in 2010..  He got the two Daytonas for free from two different dealerships in Calif. But he got the rest of his Mopars from Chrysler. Including his Cruising Daytona, a 73 that he daily drives with a KB Hemi, and two "space shuttle" motorhomes. I helped put together a deal for Supercar Collectibles to build both of his Daytonas. Trying to get them finished by Nats 2010.
