can we or can we not put ebay wing car adds in the aero section

in the past we discussed putting ebay wing car adds in this section. Geno said it was cool with him and we've  been doing it for awhile. it makes it easier for us wing car guys to find wing car parts and cars. now the adds are being lost in the ebay section. it makes for more discussions in this section. let us know . Probably because you were the starter of the 2 threads about your cars. I'm sure if I posted a for sale thread on Style in the main section, it would be moved as well.

I'm just taking a guess here, but I would think ebay ads would be fine...just don't start your own.

1. I didn't move them and my message about the Classifieds was put up two weeks ago so they are unrelated.
2. Geno is on vacation.
3. I haven't had a chance to investigate yet so just hang on.

We have 4 members with the abilty to move/modify threads and sometimes it takes a bit to figure out what everyone else is doing. For the record though, we did discuss (and agree on) leaving eBay ads in the Aero section.

My guess is that this moderator wasn't aware of our arrangement with Geno. Personally I see no problem with posting your own e-bay ad in this section as long as it's an aero car. I want to see them.

Whatever you do, don't leave us BK.

Our overall aero car IQ average slips several points when we lose knowledgable areo car people like yourself and we don't want that.

What Troy is referring to is the Classified section only. Has nothing to do with the ebay references in the aero section. People tend to want to discuss the guys ad in the classifieds, usually bashing the price or the product in some form or fashion. I'm sure that he has no problems whatsoever with discussing the cars that are listed on e-bay.  We should see the posts returned to the aero section soon.

I moved the threads.  I meant to just move the self promoted for sale ads by BK....one other one got moved by accident. 
Unless someone tells me different, I will move for sale ads by the person selling the item to the appropriate section.
Why clutter up the section with self promoted ads?

You know most of you are scowering eBay every minute anyway......look at a lot of the topics in the section.....

Can we stay away from the name calling. Simple mistake on BK's part, I wasn't aware we couldn't post a thread about our own ebay adds. But then again I'm not selling anything on there right now. For future reference I'll keep that in mind though.

Yeah, what name calling? If you're referring to me, I'm just asking the moderator to be more tolerant, that's all. As for self promotion, I don't have a problem with it. Shouldn't we be able to promote the sale of winged cars even if they're our own? Maybe someone on the aero site might actually be interested in buying a wing car from someone else on the site. I seriously considered buying BK's Charger 500 a couple of months ago before deciding to build a new shop.

It was a generalized comment. Not directed at any one individual. I was reading the thread and I thought that it was heading towards a barrage of name calling posts. Jumped the gun on that one. Everyone remained civil.

I feel like I know quite a few people on here. However I did have the chance to meet up with quite a few of them over the past few years at various shows.

I suppose that after a while, the same people post to the same topics all the time and you begin to ferret out the people who are like minded.
I feel the same way.  I'll talk to other car friends about people on here and their cars as though I've met them and find myself correcting for it and explaining that it's an internet thing.

Well, the way we've handled things so far is to allow eBay ads in the Aero forum.  The biggest reason I'm in favor of keeping the links here is because most of the time the threads spark discussion about whatever is being sold.  In order to keep that priviledge, I've agreed to periodically go through and yank out the old/dead links. 

The reason BK's threads were moved was that they were oriented more towards advertising.  While I wish Dave the best of luck in selling his cars, this isn't intended as a marketing forum.  If the subject comes up in the course of discussing something else, fine.  Personally, I'm not gonna whack any post where someone incidentally mentions a car (or part) they have for sale.  However, a thread started for that sole purpose crosses the line.  I think 6T9/Chris called it right with the moves he made.

There are gray areas though.  Earlier this year, we did briefly debate whether it was appropriate to leave hotrod98's threads about the wing braces for sale, but Larry was mostly doing the guys on the board a favor by making them available to those people interested.  IMHO it was a broader-based "for sale" topic, and was appropriate for the Aero forum.  We're not trying to be impersonal either.  All of us here are rooting for Danny's persistent trade offers to pan out someday, so he can land that wing car he's dreamed of.

I know it's hard to nail down exactly what we are trying to accomplish here, and I really don't want to upset Dave, but Troy has given us some direction to go by.  How Chris handled things jives with what I also interpret Troy's wishes to be.  I don't think this issue will come up just terribly often though - thankfully.
