Chris G.

Dave , I sure hope you have a spot for it and keep it. Crazy as this sounds, I heard you had to move the Daytona because you were selling a house or something. I can't remember where I heard it, but damn does news travel fast.

Dave you can't really be considering selling the Daytona. I know that you have mentioned it a few times before but I had always thought that you were kind of kidding.

nascarxx29

Can't live in it. Do you recall the Superbird camper from Fort Worth Texas? I think I can retrofit ;D

Charger_Fan

Looks like it's in great shape. Out of curiosity, how long did you own & drive it before you parked it in '77?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

69_500

Dave keep the car unless you wanna sell it to me. :)

Haven't you had the car since the late 80's?

nascarxx29

I have owned prior superbirds including the wrecked 440-6 superbird superbird on carsinbarns .And this is my first and only daytona.I never logged anytime time in this car. .Other than local neighborhood warmups.if it was to go .I can say I owned and experienced my 4 wingcars for sometime over the years. And had access a hemi orange 440 4 speed daytona I did someone work on .And always have that memory and mine from my wingcars owning and driving experiences. And was fortunate to have had the ones I did own .And time spent with.this daytona was a urban legend in NJ as from stories over the years rumors was a wing car most likely a superbird was in a bad part of town in a collasped garage. The car was tracked down for by a friend a ex police officer pursuing a subject down that alley. And seen the white wing center.Up top exposing the top of the wing from 2 wooden barn doors rotted off there hinges and dropped down. And only standing by laying up againist the cars back bumper My friend Joe bought his 6 pack superbird from a guy from the same neighborhood. These 2 wingcars palled around together. The superbird guy got it day one new .And for some reason turned it back to the dealership. My friend got that car.And his paperwork and owner address.Matched my cars neighborhood. We tracked that guy down years later and he said that he remembered another guy in town with a car like his.Confirmed it was my car from showing him pictures and address a street away from him

Dave I'll say it again. Keep the car.

Unless you want to sell it to me. :)

Charger_Fan

Aaahh, I was thinking you had owned it since the 70's & had it under your wing that whole time. Well, I'm glad you were able to rescue it before the barn fell in on it. :yesnod:

Oh & I'd say keep it too. ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Old Moparz

Dave, I'll trade you for it. How about a 1968 Charger, a 1968 Coronet 500 ragtop, a 1971 Scamp, a 1971 Barracuda, & a new tool box filled with tools to get all 4 back on the road, all for the Daytona?   ;D

69_500

I'll swap ya a matching 500 to your current Daytona. only its an automatic, and its ready to roll.

Chris G.

Dave, since this has become a bidding war, I will jump in as well.

I will give you an autographed photo of myself in a 4x10 picture frame...wait that's not all. I will also take you and Annie out to the restaraunt of your choice and pick up the tab. As you can see, I don't mess around. I will also be your best friend for at least 6 months. After that, I can't include a guarantee. I will also include...for a limited time only, my real estate sklillz, which are pretty bad, but better than nothing.

All this is offered to you for a measly Daytona. I think I am getting hammered in the deal, but as long as you are happy, that's all that matters. PM me and we can finalize everything.  ;D

nascarxx29

I got it from the original owner he parked it in 1977.Insurance was to high for him.I put 15x7 chrome magnums and redlines on it .As the original tires didnt like to hold air for long .The car was outfitted as this its a R4 red car with white interior and stripe .Wiith whiteline tires. And deluxe hubcaps same as the 69 SE charger used .I have all the documentation and pictures of it when it was new

Exactly.....

Who is that fellow in Kentucky with the lime green Superbird that drives it all the time?  Man I love that car.  He has chips and dings all over the front of the car and a spot worn on the drivers door from hanging his arm out the window.  It's a car that has been loved.

Rick Edwards.  He's the original owner of the car.  It's a 6-pack with a 4-speed.

69_500

And that car has been driven since new. Isn't he around 160,000+ on the car by now? I know its well over 100,000 miles.

He drives that car everywhere he goes for shows anyways.

I was parked next to him for most of the weekend at the Nats so I took a picture of the odometer although I forget now what it read.  When the pics come back (no I'm not digital yet) I'll let you know.

69_500

What did you think of his matching hat in the rear window, that says "Origional owner".

Or how the top of his drivers door is down to bare metal from driving all these years with his arm hanging out.

If you talked to him much you would easily realize he is definately a talker. Its hard to get him to stop talking once he gets going.

Ghoste

He wasn't talking too much this year but I've met him other years and I agree, he enjoys a good tale.  This year I think we maybe just weren't in the same places that often, our cars were together, but not us.

69_500

He does a lot of walking and talking to other people when he see's someone he knows. I know when he spotted my 500 last year and the year before I was at my car for at least 2 hours each time talking to him.

Ghoste

Lots.  I'm the photo dinosaur though so you have to give me a chance to scan them and post them.

69_500

You mean this Superbird.

gtx6970

Yep, Rick lives about 10 minutes from me.And Yes ,  He is definitly a talker.
Would you believe most of that is still original paint. Only the lower 1/4's , nose cone and top of the wing have been painted.
I've tried to talk him into taking the car apart for it's much needed rest and and restore it. But he sold his Daytona project last year so the chances of him parking the bird now are slim. Although he has 2 charger 500's as well. Both stuck (litery buried)  in the garage collecting dust.

Ghoste

And here I sit with my rusty fastback. :rotz:

69_500

Glad to see you posting over here now Bill.

Rick does have 2 500's, I have photo's of both cars, but it appears that the picture you just posted of his R6 500 (painted yellow now) is pretty recent. Or at least within the last 3-4 years. As it still has stuff piled on it, every time I see it anyways.

I should have bought his Daytona when he offered it to me. At the time though it seemed like a steep price.

This pic was taken last year and if you walk into the garage today it looks exactly the same.
Actually , Exactly the same for the past 10 years at least, or longer. IMO he will never get either one done.To be honest the Bird need to come part,But it'll  Never happen.
I've been on him for the past 2 years to sell me the R6 red (now y2 yellow ) with no luck. and I've offered a very reasonable price for both of us.
Except for a crappy repaint in the wrong color, It's completely untouched, Original hoses, belts, plug wires. Etc But the car has been sitting for over 25 years and has not even been started or tried to start it in that time frame that I'm aware of.

Ghoste

That's quite a stash of parts around those cars too, btw.

You have no idea...........You wouldn't believe the amount of junk that can be stashed into a 4 car garage, There is litterly No room to walk around without a serious chance of injury

Well, I'd be happy to help with his predicament.  Just to ease the risk of a fellow Mopar lover getting hurt of course. :icon_smile_big:

Do you know if he has those two C500 VIN's on anyone's list, counting them as part of the "still here on the planet" group? ;D

69_500

They are both on my list of known cars. I've known about those two cars since I could walk.

Known Rick for I'd say 90% of my life so far. My parents have known Rick since I was born I think, or met him in 1979 at the latest.

I've tried over the last 2 years to get Rick to sell me both of the 500's as a package deal. Heck I even tried to trade him my 1 500 for both of his. I want a 4 speed 500 and his bronze one is a 4 speed.
