Holy Crap can you imagine trying to do something like that!  It would have to be your full time job.  :o

Not much of an update, other than to say it's coming along...very slowly!
I just bought a yoke, from a Beechcraft airplane, for the steering arm. Maybe not exactly like the original, but very close.
As well, the original Deora was recently sold to a couple of brothers in Nevada who are completing a museum. Presently, it is in storage and not on display to the public. But my plan is to pop on down there for a quick visit, and get a good look at it, if I can make adequate arrangements in advance.

HAH! I just clued into the trim on that black air intake(?) on the side...that's a '65/66 Mustang taillight bezel.
That will be pretty cool if & when you can get to go see it. It looks like it's been preserved nicely.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Yup...it's cool in it's own way. But as a Deora...nope.
Point of fact: Mattel wanted to buy the original Deora off of the owner, and redo it for the 40th anniversary of the Hotwheels brand.
However, the owner didn't want to sell it to Mattel, only to see it modified into their idea of a Deora - what with the surfboards and all.
So, as a second best idea, they built the Foose/Larry Erickson Deora II.

As a follow up: the Deora was eventually sold to the museum mentioned above....for $385,000.

Yes, Al Davis Snr bought the car from Chrysler Corporation in 1970, for the grand sum of $10K.
The very next year, he died at the age of 36, leaving the Deora to his son, Al Davis Jnr.
He put it in storage until 1980, when he repainted and reupholstered it and took it on the show circuit (again) where it did so well, it bought Junior a house with the winnings.
It was mostly restored in 2002 to a somewhat original appearance, in a effort put forth by Harry Bradley (the designer of the Deora), the Alexander Brothers (builders of the Deora) and select others. It was redone as part of a tribute to the A Bros in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Detroit Roadster show (I believe).
When you saw it at the local cruise night, it was a rare outing for the beast!
