I went to a place that I had visited 20 years ago just to see if the person there still had any Charger parts laying around. The following is what we found. The color of the car is not brown, look closely. The car was stripped of paint, passenger quarter replaced, and that`s about it. It was allowed to get wet after stripping it. It`s to bad, it looked to be a real solid car at one time. ??? Is there any way to save it with this much rust damage?

:'(    :'(     :'(    :'(   I see that too many times.  Someone is all gun-ho to restore a car and they tear it down and then realize how big of an undertaking this is and then leave it sit to rot and die...

I would say you can probably save it but you would have to sink another $30,000 into it.  Unless you do most of the work yourself, then its $17,000 ( i know, i just did this :yesnod:)

I think it can be saved. It would have to be blasted or acid dipped but as long as the rust hasn't gone through it should be salvageable.

POR15 or Rustoleum the whole thing and use it for a drag car  :icon_smile_big:

If you're prepared to dissassemble it the rest of the way, you can always get it dipped. Then follow it up with a media blasting.
I'm sure that will work.
My Charger had a fair amount of surface rust, and the above treatment removed it entirely.

I was hoping to just score some parts from the person. Well, I did score a complete woodgrain steering wheel for 10 bucks. When I asked what else he had he showed me the Charger in his old bodyshop and it has been sitting in his shop for 20 years. He doesn`t have the time or ambition to start over on it. He said if I wanted anymore parts I would have to buy that Charger and another 68 parts car he has. I already have a nice 68 and don`t really want a money pit of a project but if he calls back with the right price I may consider it. Below are pics of the parts car that I got the woodgrain wheel from.

Unfortunately he isn`t. If he was we would have started loading up yesterday. He, like most of us thinks his cars are worth their wieght in gold. When I went there 20 years ago he had a b-5 70 Charger with a 70 Road Runner nose on it. He told he actually gave that car away. That car was real rusty 20 years ago.

If they are not stupidly overpriced, I may be interested in going in on it. My garage is not far from you as you already know.

You can have it media blasted.
In this state? Where? I`d prefer to have it dipped, but again, where?
