It's Hemi Orange.  It's just the color in the photo is washed out.

:iagree:

The "Wing Series I" postcard picture of Bobby Isaac's #71 looks to be a pale shade of orange, but the color of that pic isn't the true color of the car.  Almost certainly the same deal as the car on eBay.

daytonalo

Would you say for sure his car in not R-4

nascarxx29

I can remember reading in something in my wingcar archives.Something to the effect about a Poppy red .And Doug S stated they used  65-66 colors.Id say it would be most likely up to whatever individual builder and what they had available to use.And there happens to be a 65 ford color named poppy red

In the picture of the #71 sitting next to the 500 in the museum , what color is the 500 , hemi orange ?

nascarxx29

[[[Bobby Isaac]]] was the point champion in [[[1970]]] while driving the [[[Poppy Red]] [[(a Ford color)]] K&K Insurance #71 Dodges to eleven victories. In addition to Isaac and Petty, other winners in Chrysler products during the 1970 season included: Bobby Allison, Charlie Glotzbach, Buddy Baker who won the Southern 500 and Pete Hamilton who won the Daytona 500 and the Talladega 500.

Source of this is where I read is right here in the 1970 forum. I remember meeting the southern NJ author who wrote supercars Frank M at a car show thats maybe where I heard it before seeing it on the winged warrior site

There are 2 Daytonas painted B-3 (Petty Blue)!  Wow. I had no idea. I have never ever even seen a picture, let alone the real deal. I am painting my clone Petty blue, but hesitated because I didn't think any came that way.

69_500

I haven't seen any B3 Daytona's either personally, but I can tell you that I have seen 3 A4 silver cars personally, and have heard of a 4th one.

nascarxx29

I dont recall seeing a true fender tag coded B3 car in my shows & travels .I only remember saving these pictures of XS29J cars .The daytona looks like B3 though

B3 is not Petty Blue.   There were no Daytonas from the factory in Petty Blue.   I wouldn't look bad though...

69_500

If I'm not mistaken his daytona was a factory V2 car. His 500 however is B5 blue.

B3 isn't a very pretty color in my opinion, but then again I haven't seen any Daytona's regardless of color that I didn't like.

Hey Doug, do you have any info on J9B381552 ?  I haven't seen the car, its fender tag or broadcast sheet, but it was logged in 1979 as a Corporate Blue (Plymouth-only color!) car.  Might have just been the colour du jour.  If it was factory, that would have been just short of heresy at the time, wouldn't it?

69_500

Gene just so you know I looked in my info and I don't have anything on that car.

Hey with hints like that I guess I can say that I have seen that car in person too. Just didn't write down the VIN or fender tag info.

The owner is a very nice gentleman. Very easy going, and great to talk to.

nascarxx29

I got the fender tag recorded on that car.He did or still does own a body shop I recall. And he had a interesting experience you hardly hear of happening to the wing cars. His backwindow came out going down the road.I seached to find that story. But located this one.

I recall from around 1987, a friend and fellow 'Moparite', Greg Lane from Colorado, he and I were sitting around in the parking lot of the host hotel to the annual Colorado Mopar gathering, and in pulled a B5 blue/automatic Hemi Daytona, I believe the only remaining original owner car left. This belongs to a guy by the name of Bob K.

(As a side note, I remember Bob asking if I wanted to ride with him in the car back to his house as he has a '70 440 Six Pack Cuda for sale, which ultimately became Alan Tansley's car. We got talking and Bob showed me the TWO brand new, NOS complete Hemi engines he had on stands in his garage, "just in case" he said. Also shown to me was the paperwork and history on the car, he said he went into his local Dodge dealership, in August '68, immediately after returning home from his tour of duty in 'Nam with a pocket full of dollars. He said to the salesman, "I want the fastest Dodge car available", the dealer, remembering a recent in-house press release from Chrysler regarding the arrival of the Daytona, drew him a sketch of what he remembered the car to look like. On the strength of this sketch, he ordered the car! He still has that sketch to this day!)

Anyway, I mentioned to Greg the B5 colour was unusual and possibly unique in a Hemi Daytona, but I remember his response was "No, Chrysler built one black/white interior/white wing 4-speed car, and I towed it back from the Carolinas to here". Interesting, I thought, then carried on watching the Mopars pull in.
