I don't know the production numbers for each year but let say by genreration what do you think is still out there that hasn't been crushed.

1st gen ?
2nd gen?
3rd gen?

Anyone want to guess?

SRT-440

I'm guessing about 69,000ish 2nd Gens were made..it's a guess tho.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Probably more 440 RT's and hemis now than in the sixties. Clones that is to say.
Cars owned:
1968 Dodge Charger, 48k orig. miles, family owned since new.
Not a Hemi, a mini-hemi 340.

There's still many thousands of almost any given model/year left.  The perception that we're "running out" of everything is because the supply of cheap-but-restorable cars and parts is drying up.

Try car-hunting with $30K to spend, or try fender-hunting with $1200 to spend:  Suddenly you'll start finding a lot more of everything.  The surviving cars/parts used to be in a wide range of conditions, but they're all gradually being either entirely parted-out or turned into big-dollar gorgeous restos.

two threads and we still don't realy have any definitive #

it's all speculation, there's no way to give a definite answer for a broad question like that. that's what registries like the 2 chris's have put together are for. to try to get us one step closer to guessing what is left...  i mean anyone can shoot a guess.. umm. i think there are 10,000 66's, 2,000 67's, 20,000 68's, 18,000 69's, and 12,500 70's left. that's my guess. does anyone believe me?? all i know is there are a lot out there, but not nearly as many as there were 10 years ago. the parts/low end projects have either been used up or are being restored..

I've got just under two, more like 1 & 3/4.

Here's the 3/4 one. ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Nacho-RT74

Travis is helping to keep them on high numbers :D ;D

Count a 74 more here, and maybe 50 3rd gens more around where I live. But those don't count on USA production numbers.

CHARGER_FAN... i think that is more than 3/4... maybe 7/8

I've got two 2nd gen's.....Charger Fan, that car your counting as 3/4  looks alot better than the one I'm restoring!

Charger_Fan

Nacho, the hood, engine, tranny & most of the interior is missing too. That's where my 3/4 guess came from. :icon_smile_big:

That's exactly why I can't make myself part it out any further. :bawling:
By the way, that's how I bought it. I didn't do that hack job. It was originally a 383 4-speed SE 500 too.

I say a 20% survival rate.  No reason, I just like the sound of it.  ;D

69charger2002

I forget the exact number but off the top of my head, 66 was just under 40,000 units and 67 was around 15,000.

1966 did that with only a part year of production too btw.  The car wasn't introduced until January of 1966.  Unlike today where they bring a car out 6 months before regular production and call it a years worth.  (come to think of it, the very first Mustang did that too)

AKcharger

There are total of 3,623 Chargers left.

DC_1

I think it would be interesting if we some how had the sales figures of the 10 most commonly needed parts that are repoped and that people would order. That would give some indication on whats out there.

Ghoste

You're wrong AK, you know as well as everyone else that there are 3,627.  You're just trying to create panic so the value of yours will go up.

What GM car was it that had that happen,?  and they had a meet for them and more showed up than were produced and the clones werent allowed in the show and people started getting pissed.  I'm thinking it was either Yenko Camaros or 427 Corvettes..?.... ??

I've been told that a similar situation exists with 1st generation Z28's.  I believe I have also heard that about 69 Yenko Camaros as well.

SS Chevelles, specifically 1970's are right up there with them.  There were 62,372 1970 SS Chevelles produced, 8,773 of which were SS454 cars (RPO LS5 & LS6).  I think that number now is about 20,000 SS454 cars  ::).
