Maybe...  Could the hole be for something on the 3 speed wiper motor option, wiring chase hole maybe?  Just guessing here, the firewalls were used in many different body styles, including wagons, maybe something for the wagon & all the vacuum or electrical... Just spit-balling, I don't have any references...  Cruise control electrical...  Maybe just an access hole for getting to a clip, wire, clamp, bolt or something while at assembly plant production line...  Alignment hole for assembly equipment to install the fire wall...  Something for a Slant 6 equipped car, linkage, wiring, vacuum hose, etc ????

I've been interested in the mystery hole more so because (as far as I've heard) no one knows the answer. At least here and so far.
From all I've seen their is no reason for it on our cars so it must have been a mistake.  A plug for the hole would save a lot of investment in stamped parts making them usable. :slap:
One thing has to be--someone knows why and how it happened (unless they all died) :eek2:  And frankly if the final answer were to come out it would spoil the fun of the question.

If it was a production sequence thing where the dash was already in when they hooked something up - what could it be?  Also, they could have changed the assembly sequence at some point to eliminate this issue.

So, do the mystery hole cars have any of these options in common?

what got me thinking about it was the little hold in our doors where the small body plug in it ,  so you can get the the wing window assemble fastener .

Ghoste

If it's an assembly process thing, why did it not exist in 1968?

Homerr

Differences in model year, government regulations?

1968 Light Package, Code 355 only had these lights:  glove box, trunk, ignition, map

Homerr

Not sure about this one, source said it was a 1969 Charger 500.
