My car is getting down to crunch time. I need to rebuild the door hinges. I have the pin and bushings but need some directions as to how I replace them. Does anyone know where I can find detailed instructions of the process?

its pretty easy, just need help of someone to hold the door, or if you can theres special attachment for floor jack that will hold the door for you. You just pop out old ones with hammer.

Mine were bound and would not easily tap out. I had to grind a slot in the head of each upper pin and then tapped and twisted using the slot to index a narrow chisel. Once they budge a bit THEN you can tap them out. Mine were also eccentric (oval)...it was a bummer, but I discovered that the new bushing were too tight a fit anyway, so I carefully used a Dremel with a 180 grit barrel bit in the end and brought them back to round(ish). If you go too far you're screwed big time because those bushings need to be a snug fit, but too snug and they will split on you when you try to tap them in. ALSO, you do not want to force them in so that they crush at all or your new pin will NEVER go in. I miked everything and went very slow and deliberately with the 180 grit barrel bit. I have heard that MOST guys don't have this problem, but my doors were VERY saggy and the previous owner used the hinges way beyond what would be considered normal..

Here's to you having an easier time...

would it be possible to put bushings on and then tap new pin in?

I got mine off Ebay about a year ago. I wonder if it would be possible to swap the pins and bushings without removing the doors? My doors are off now but my brother has a mustang that needs them done. He would prefer not to remove the doors. I wonder if we put a floor jack under the door if that would work?

I did that just on thursday... GREEEEEEEAT....

you need to cut just the lower end of the pin, remove it, then drill the holes on the section where is not fixed the pin, to the busshing size.. a little bit smaller to fit REALLY TIGHT the bushing and doesn't spins with door... with a press, install te busshings. Then assembly and install the pin... Normally, pins are longer than you need only cut and hammer it to expand it and don't loose. I also put one weld point to make sure won't loose. Just extra safe.

I found here pins and bushing on around $30 for all 4 hinges.

Maybe you will need also to make thinner the hinges ears since bushings has somekind of top... like a hat, to assembly... all depends of what kind of bushing you install.

I would love also to find new door hinges springs and wheels to make a complete perfect job.

Without remove the doors is a crazy thing, since once you install new pins and bushings, door sits higher on rear end and will need realigment, so forgett it... remove doors and do it on the right way.

Anyway, I think is not possible, since you need dissasembly the hinges to get acces to install the bushings.

Im not even going to attepmt this myself. In the back of mopar Collectors guide theres an add for rebuilt hinges for like 130 bucks. Thats the route im going to take.

I don't see it being that bad. I have an old set of upper hinges. I may practice on those first. I will do it in the next few weeks. I will take pictures as I do it and post them.

I have rebilt many door hinges in the past. There not hard to do. BUT if your springs are broke. Your going to be out of luck. I have never been able to find new hinges for any of the MOPARs. I have found them for ford and chevy but not Mopars. If you need new springs you might look into buying the rebilt ones. I just painted a set of rebilt hinges for a Mustang. The guy that did the work put grease fitings in them and beefed them up. They look like they will outlast any car on the road. He did a really nice job. The customer bought them off E-Bay for $180. But they look great! The seller goes by Mustang Mike. I don't know if he can get ones for other types of cars. But he might. I have the box that they where shipped in. I can get the information off the box if someone wants to get a hold of him.

Is not really hard... BUT try to make centered as possible the hole to bushings, because you can noticed once mounted that won't have enough "play" to align the doors. Remember that pins holes allwasy are worn toward to rear on upper hinhes and toward to front on lower hinges because the weight of door. SO THINK ON THAT BUDDY...

I did need also to hammer a little the hinges because they were somehow bended... or maybe holes to bushings I made were out of place LOL... anyway is not some thing that you can not fix with heat and hammer LOL.

I was just at our local NAPA and they had a display that had about 10 different types of door hinge pin rebuild kits.  They ranged fron $3.5 to $6 per kit.

But can they get the springs?

69hemi

Nope.  If the springs are broken you need to pick up another hinge & start over.
