Who's making them , and are they 100% correct and how much are they ?

daytonalo

ANYBODY ???????? I HAVE NOS SCISSOR JACKS THAT HAVE THE PROPER BASE ,WITH THE CUTOUTS , CORRECT TOP , MINUS THE NUB , THEY ARE BRAND NEW IN THE BOX , WHAT ARE THEY WORTH ? THE NUB I WILL WELD ON .

hemigeno

I don't think anyone has come up with a 100% correct repro jack.  A major sticking point is usually the threads-per-inch of the threaded rod.  IIRC the originals were pretty much a fine thread, whereas most of the repros have a (comparatively) coarser thread.  The nub would be fairly easy to duplicate.  Not that many people know the differences between a repro and an original, but the ones who are willing to pay the huge dollars for a jack probably would.  One of the problems with trying to sell a repro is that the Dodge pickup trucks used a Custer Mfg. jack also, so there are some real close approximations laying around in junkyards everywhere.  Same thing with the handles.

I don't have my original right now, so I'm not the best source for actual/specific details at the moment. *sorry*

I am reproducing the jack from scratch. I assembled the prototype today.  It looks exactly the same as the original. I had a custom made tap & die made to get the correct
fine thread for the screw.  The tops and bottoms were stamped out in the correct thickness steel. The knobs are going to be welded on at a welding shop.  I tried but couldn't mig them on without making a mess of it. They will be tig welded.  I spent alot of $$$ on this project.  The finished price will be around $1000 each.  They will be painted in the correct color red for a Daytona, and semi-gloss black for the Superbird. Im sure if wingnut 426 is redoing these they will be correct . The other repo ones I seen from other sources over the years. What always was the dead giveaway .Was the coarse threads ,no cotter pin limiter. Also end of shaft didnt come to a tapered point. The base feet not cutout .The collar length and bearing .Also the rivet heads differed. The scissor arms didnt have the rounded ends .The original locator pin was welded from the top.And I believe it had a thumbprint pattern on it.

daytonalo

do you have a pic of a superbird bumperjack and hook that goes on bumper ? I'm aware that they are nothing special , the thing is I need a daytona bumperjack and if the one I have is 70 superbird , I might sell it . , rather than modify it .

What always was the dead giveaway .Was the coarse threads ,no cotter pin limiter. Also end of shaft didnt come to a tapered point to just new a few. Which is what I noticed on one .And lacking on the other. With original being very$$$.It looks better to have something in the trunk when the car is missing one. When installed and secured in the trunk the better repos are harder to detect

How much do you think they are ?

He said about $1000 each back a few posts on this thread.

daytonalo

My jack is complete , the nub looks like factory , this is my best work yet . I will sell them for 500.00 each , they are brand new . As of right now the handle is not included . My camera broke , will post later on

Hey Doug, Are the club jacks still coming out ?

daytonalo

I called the guy selling them on e-bay , the base is not even close , the tab where the pins go through are squared off on orig ,as are mine , his are round , he just has a generic hardware store cotter pin , mine has correct pin , the flared ends on orig are a gentle curve ,as are mine  his are bent in a brake . The nub is on his has very sloppy welding ,mine does not .

Yes they are.  I will get one and snap a photo.

Will they be fine thread Doug ? Hopefully they come out soon as the DSAC has been a great resource over the years.

The main threaded rod is a slightly smaller diameter thread.  At this point what needs to be done to finish the project is weld the pin on top and paint them.

Do yours have correct round head rivits and squared off flanges where the pins go through ? Do you have handles as well ? How much are you going to sell them for ? Larry

Dunno on the rivets.  Honestly I have not looked at them for 18 months as I farmed out the project and it has stalled.  The goal was to make a close replica, but we knew it wouldn't be an OEM imposter.   The jack is obviously a clone of the Custer scissors jack.  We called the company that distributed them here in Wisconsin, and they didn't have any furthur info on them.

We haven't done anything on pricing since they aren't done, but it was intended to be member friendly.   We are going to need handles.  Are you going into production?

wingfan

We need handles, hold down plates and a good repro wing nut if possible.  Just having the jack alone doesn't do much good.  I bought two wing nuts from Year One and sent them back because they're too small for the hold down stud.

daytonalo

I have ten of them , not sure if I want to sell them separate from jack .

nascarxx29

Didnt see any pictures or anything further.Did wingnut ever complete his version of wing car scissors jack just curious to see what his looked like.?.We saw daytonalos and they were fine .A friend came across of this jack and got it for me.To see if I think it would be a candidate for a wingcar .
Would require some mods .

I did finish the jacks and they are mint! I have a for sale ad in classified section with a picture.  I am also in the process of making the handles again, I am waiting for the shop that is stamping the pivot piece to make them.  I will be bring jacks to the meet in N.C and I have ads coming out in the wing car newsletters.  Anybody having an original
jack that is damaged, I can repair them since the parts I had reproed are exact.  Pete
