That's pretty cool - and whatever you do, don't get rid of that tag... It'll be a great piece to keep on the car showing it's legacy!

Keep the pics, details & stories coming, you have a captive audience here!!!

Mike ?winga I know the shipment list is not absolute on some cars. But in some cases it provides someone that has zero documentation. And has only a serial number to start with tracing a cars history.Another thing the list has been a help on when someone with a certain section of buildsheet missing. They have a source for getting the cars S/O 926 job number. If the fender tag gone and buildsheet only a partial. The shipment list does have that info on it.Ihad that kind of info available when someone had that dilema. On ONEMINTCADDYS dads daytona the list colaberates with the affixed dealer decal on the trunk .As car #429 went to Bob Morton motors Hope Arizona dealer number#64-64278.  5 May 29 th Schedule Production date

Nice! Looks like they're going pretty quickly on that. :)

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

damn that restos moving quick :yesnod:

This is just an observation, but this screws that are holding the new 1/4 on,I don't know if I am a big fan of those.Harbor Freight sells some paralell clamps to allow you to hold a panel in place while you spot weld.10 from HArbor Freight is 4.99.4 from Eastwood is 28.99.I am not busting on somebody's work, its just may be an easier way to do it.The car looks super.Keep the photos coming.

onemintcaddy

Good point on the screws, The guy that " was " doing the metal work, Him and I had a little falling out. :flame:  I have had 3 Major back surgery's and not able to do what I once did (body work). When you remove that much supporting structure for ANY car, You DON"T weld the dam thing together sitting on jack stands. :argue:                Maybe I'm old fashioned :shruggy:

I will say this. Screw it, or whatever to hold it in place temporarily until you get a good weld started. I wouldn't screw it, but have seen other shops do that, and in the long run you couldn't tell. Just seems like a lot more work of later having to fix those screw holes.

daytonalo

Welding holes is a joke when you use a brass or copper backer , its like discovering fire for the first time !!!!!!!!!!!

onemintcaddy

That's probably why he needed more money,,,, Had to buy 6 more roles of wire. ??? We pulled the plug at $14,000.00 when he needed more money (last photo). Just because the car is worth more than a standard 69, Doesn't make it harder to fix,,,,,,OK, more expensive! :flame:

Hey onemintcaddy, is it just me or does your wingcar have one battery cooling hole in the rad support. I ask this because this is the configuration I have seen on most wingcars but, after consulting with some very knowledgeable wingcar buffs they have seen the odd wingcar with two holes. Since most of the 26" rad chargers I have seen have two holes, I am wondering if this is one of those differences between "earmarked" Daytonas and "earmarked" chargers switched to Daytonas shortly after body welding at Hamtramck. My apologies to the experienced wingcar people on this board if this was covered in an old thread, if so please point the way and I'll go do my "homework".

I use those panel clamps occasionally, but for the most part they stay in the tool box. They work pretty well for small panels, but you can't really hold a heavy panel in place with them since the panel tends to slide out of the clamp due to the design. Also, I try to get my gaps a little tighter than the clamps allow. I usually start out by holding the panel in place with self drilling screws and then mark my cut lines before removing the screws. Weld those holes are piece of cake compared to trying to weld up a wide gap.
As for installing the vega plugs, I did something different on Howard's car. I cut and set the plug down totally flush with the window opening. Hopefully, this doesn't bit me on the backside. It should look correct without using a lot of filler. We'll see.

It only has one hole with a rubber splash Gard riveted on the front. I have photos but the dam things are too big to post. I can tear a car down and make it pretty,, But I can't resize a picture :rotz:

Just seeing those shells on the quarter panels makes me shudder.... I remember doing mine and all the fun I had with them... gonna go hide in the corner in a fetal position and pray the nightmares don't come back... lol
