Well I found out the real story about that BURNT Daytona that was on eBay a while back and was warped...  (sold for 45k)...  It was used to burn trash weekly by a family out in the sticks in Tx.   :flame:   :brickwall:  I met the guy who sold it on eBay tonight, and he kept shaking his head as he told me about it.  FRIKIN' AMAZING!    :o

He said new owner asked him to just send VIN tag, and he agreed, but then said "well I'll just sell the hull on eBay... lol  Needless to say the guy came right-over and picked it up.
He used a tractor to load it on a trailer, and the thing CRUMBLED as it was lifted.  Poor Daytona  :pity:

I was checking out a Challenger, that looked to be re-bodied?  Anyone know of a stolen Plum Crazy Chally in Tx???

You should have seen the area.  MILES of mobile homes, then he has this 1.3 million dollar home on the lake (was assessed a 30% loss on home because of area).

Car may be flagged among the wing car fans but there will be some fool out there who will pay too much for the rebody that's bound to come.  (glass must be half empty for me tonight)

Wanna hear something SICK???  I still think that burn-up old car still is a thing of beauty...  Just look at that Lovely flowing curve on the back of the body...

Damn it.  I need to see a therapist.

Ghoste

I can see it too.  It makes it that much sadder to look across the profile of that car and think of how it will never cheat the wind again.
See if that therapist offers a group discount.

:iagree:    me too   :rotz:   when i first saw a few of these pictures , i was thinking , that i woud save that  :yesnod:
if i had  it i would media blast the body , then get another 69 body shell do the same , then un pick all the welds of the parts you need & then assemble  a body shell like they did in the factory using as much of the daytona as possible ( not much ::))  i would never sell this and i would document exactly what i  had done . as my labour time is free & and that would be the only way i could get a daytona , with the current market value ..  still i have seen my Therapist   ;D & she says i'm getting better now :pity:  :yesnod: :coocoo:

i no longer start twitching &  sweating when i see XX29 charger for sale or on one of the cars in barns web sites  ;D

Shortly after winning the burnt hull of 355107 on Ebay, the same buyer also won the auction for a 70 Charger with a steel Daytona nose and real wing.

Now isn't that an odd coincidence.  He was likely just really disappointed when he got that burnt shell home and realized he'd have to settle for something else.

Yes, it was blue.   He must have thought he hit the lottery when that second auction appeared.

Just thinking out of the box here. But Doug, this can't be the only trashed Daytona that someone has documented over the years, that is probably going to be rebuilt is it? I was just talking to Gene this weekend about a green HEMI Daytona tht was burned and smashed back in the 80's and I remember my dad being offered the tags to the car afterwords. He passed, as at around the same time he was looking at he X9 HEMI Daytona that Don Hicks had. But I'm sure that someone else picked up those tags, and put together another HEMI Daytona.

The old man's vin.# was linked to a clone being bilt in the Dakotas.   :rotz:
How Meany can say, They drive there 401-K

hemigeno

It does happen - but the more information that can be collected and shared by the Aero car clubs, and on open/internet forums like this, the less of a chance someone would have of passing off a clone or rebody as an original.

What became of the clone in the Dakotas?  Did you guys get the satisfaction of sending it to the crusher?   :icon_smile_big:

MELTED?... Doesn't look like it in the picture below.

The story back when the car was on eBay was a garage fire with the garage roof falling on the car... seems to agree with the pictures below.

I guess someone could call the guy that sold it on eBay... if his number is unchanged... see eBay Ad picture below.

The other burnt Daytona (Green Hemi car) was first mentioned in a later post, so the melted remark appears to be about the Texas car (440 car).

The story I heard about this burnt daytona  before it became public. And  known as the daytona used for a fireplace. My friend in TX Shanker sent me this in the following. The story goes that the house burned w/ the car in the garage, the guy was so pissed about it burning, that he stacked trash on top of it and let it sit for a long time, all that was visible was the wing thru the piles of trash, I wanted to try to buy that car for myself, but its just not fixable w/o a rebody

'Quote' from Shanker.I found out about this car about 3 years ago and told Dave about it, I just didnt know the VIN, Im pretty sure it was origionaly Red w/ a white interior sold New at Waco Dodge, it was one of the 2 sold there that has NEVER surfaced on any wing car registeries.

Even if you were to use that body, cut off the bad stuff and weld new stuff on, you would essentially have a re-body anyway. I think a rebody would be a good thing for that car, not too many Daytona's were made and there is no reason to scrap one just because of that.

Hey Dave, I just noticed something else in those clipping from Hemmings.
You see the lsiting for a Daytona, 4 speed, "one of the first one's made" in LA? That would be the B5 blue, blue interior, 4 speed Daytona that my dad bought. The one that was painted gun metal grey, with the red stripe going down the side.
