Why where they recalled anyway???

tan top

pretty sure the lug nuts would work  loose over a short distance ,causing the wheel center to crack..

I don't even know if it was a really short distance, didn't it depend on whether or not they were properly torqued from the beginning?

Chatt69chgr

Were those wheels available as an option in 69?  If so, in what sizes?  THanks.

1969 Model year only - recalled VERY early Sept or late August 1969 , essentially on about 2 or 3 weeks worth of production cars . On a B-body Avail in a 15x6 ONLY

UFO

A-body 14", C-body had the option as well in the same 15" as B-body.

Chatt69chgr

I looked on the Specialty Wheels website and they don't mention these wheels.  And they don't have an e-mail address.  They must have just released these and not updated the website.  Anybody have literature on these?  Sizes available, price, etc?

AzA12Bee (Dave) and RJS (Ron) on Moparts purchased a set. You may want to get in touch with them. Chris at the 69 Charger registry knows Ron. He may be able to hook you up with him.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

Ronnie will be replying shortly....... ;)

They have been available for over a year I believe, initially they made the aftermarket style with chrome rim and nonoriginal sizes.  then last summer or so they reproduced the oem style with trim rings which they say and from what I can tell very accurate. Then last year at Carlise they had them in the correct B-Body size :icon_smile_big: (but at extra cost :icon_smile_sad:)  15x6 . The only part not accurate is the center cap :icon_smile_dissapprove: hopefully they will correct that soon :icon_smile_cool:. I'm going to try and attach a picture but not sure if I know how.  Ron

Neal_J

Do you mind if I ask the rough cost for these repops?

Thanks!

Neal

Around $1800 for a set of 4 including trim rings + wheel nuts

Thanks.

I failed to mention that they look great - especially with the redlines.

The 15x6 were $2300 last summer and 15x7 were around $1800.  Oh and thanks Ron

Ron,

I ReeeeeeeaLY need  (ok want ) a pic of the car ,,,please

Just 6T9 CHGR

Heres one prior to him tearing the car apart... ::)

The recall wheels really set the car off now.  Pics did this car no justice then and they dont do it now.....  Ronnie is reassembling this bad boy himself right now.  Ron has been a direct influence on the way my car looks now.  I'm always striving to get to his level of anality ;)

He has taught me well

Hey Bill if tomorrow is nice I'm going to take the car out of the garage to get a better shot. I don't have the tail stripe on yet so It's still not done. Also have to get my butt back in gear to pull engine again it has what I believe is sloppy bores (KEITH BLACKS).
Chris that was real nice what you said I almost shed a tear!!!! :pity:  I really don't think you need me to be anal, your car gets nicer every year. :yesnod:

PocketThunder

Yes!  they make the Kelsey Hayes (Warroir) in 17's!  Only $2,376.50 per set  :o

This is my top pick so far for my C500.  :boogie:

Ghoste

That's still cheaper than what folks want for the original ones in the smaller size.  I think they'll look great on your 500!

Guessing this company is out of business as the website no longer works. Did anyone take over making these wheels?

It was a surprise to me.
I've bumped old threads just to mess with people. I thought maybe you had a similar thought.

INTMD8

Haha, no I came across the thread looking for the recall repro's.  Could have started a new one but this already had pics and company name so thought someone might know if anyone else took on the production of these or had the tooling. (assuming it's a cast center, I'm not sure)

I would like to get a set for my Charger. It's too bad whoever bought Specialty wheel did not continue to make these repro wheels.

Exactly.  Of all the ugly ass wheels selling for crazy prices, these are the ones they tooled up for, then stopped making.  They looked great as an OEM wheel, and as cool as any aftermarket wheel.  They looked way ahead of their time.

I LOVE post resurrections!

There was a version that sold in Mexico. Probably still quite a few down there..but who really wants to go scrounging in Mexico?

INTMD8

I'm working on getting these made (will be expensive though).

I need an original wheel for the design if anyone has a lead. Damaged is fine.

Thanks.  No it's just one set I had made. I was never able to track anything down as to what happened with the stuff from Specialty wheel.

What's something like that cost?  $8,000-$10,000 a set?

INTMD8

^ Larger diameter one off's can be that or more.  (I spent 12k on a set of 20's years back)  I think the 15" aspect saves a bit of money.

Wheels were 5k, tires 2200 plus another 800 to add the redlines.  (Tires are DOT 80 treadwear road race, Avon CR6ZZ)

I know it's a small detail but I like the SE emblem has a little fratzog like the center caps.

They look great.
Nice work.
Can I ask if that's a repro SE emblem, and if so, where you got them?
Mine are a little average, so I'd like to find new ones to install on my car.
Gotta love a '69

Thanks guys!

Thanks! I can't take any credit for them. My part was simply explaining their history and asking, will you make them. :)
