THE CHARGER PUNK

dash tag looks crumpled i wonder what became of the rest

69_500

Not sure what became of the rest of the car. I had the VIN number wrote down as a known car. And had it listed as being a black 500. However I didn't have it listed as one that had been scraped. I'm bidding on the tag, so hopefully I'll get it.

Drache

Why do I see three X9's on that tag?  ???

Also the ling with all the X9's... isn't there one number section too many?

Jeez they didnt even bother to drill out the rivets.  It looks like it was pried off with a screwdriver.  I wonder if they are stolen?

Drache, That is normal.A lot of tags have the paint codes in two spots.I`m assuming its upper body, lower body.If you have a `69 service manual, check out the body code plate diagram.Somewhere farther in the year it got dropped to one listing.

So that accounts for 2 of them by why the third and why the extra section for that line?  :icon_smile_big:

I just went back to your breakdown.C6X is all black int. C6W is black and white.

hemigeno

That third one is referred to as the Upper Door Paint color.  If you look underneath the door pads, you'll see remnants of that color on the metal door frame itself.

I don't think that the double body color paint thing was a mid-year change.  It did differ between assembly plants though.

This is what I've observed on '69 tags anyway:

>>  At Hamtramck, if a car came with a Vinyl top, it only had one body color paint code on the Fender Tag (in the second "block", the first "block" is left empty)

>>  At Hamtramck, if a car came with no Vinyl top, it had two body color paint codes on the Fender Tag

>>  At St. Louis, it seems that all cars had two paint codes - whether or not it came with a V-top.  Doug (69CoronetRT) can correct me on this, but I have several examples that follow this pattern.

Hope that helps explain things a bit!

Yes that is what I have seen on these cars, body color, roof color and then the upper door frame color. This is usually coded under UDF on the b/cast sheet. For instance I have seen a copper daytona listed as T5, T5, T3, and an orange one listed as V2, V2, X9.

I had thought about the vinyl/no vinyl roof deal.Never thought to check plant codes. The ones I have follow hemigeno`s post.

does anyone here know the gentleman who is the high bidder currently? Just curious as I don't want to bid against someone who is known here. I'd just rather those tags wind up somewhere that they won't eventually wind up on some car down the road that is being passed off as a factory X9 Charger 500.

Danny   Tornado- alley- mopar  the high bidder   is Clint H from Oklahoma. As far is i know he ownes some 69 chargers but not a 500 or Daytona. He bids on tons of stuff on the bag. And he is not a member of this group as far as i know. I have bid against him on parts and he will run it up there. Hope this helps.    Jay. :icon_smile_cool:

I'll donate to one of the registry guys, just to keep the tags documented
Have you seen my old '69 Charger??

Not exactly sure what a good price would be at this point. I was thinking that the final price would be around $75, and I was willing to go that far, but it appears that it will cost a tad more than that to put those tags in a box.

Chris G.

The bidder "tornado_alley_mopar" bids on a lot of tags. Not sure what his angle is, but he has outbid me a few times. Not sure how many he wins though.

Tornado alley??  That isn't one of those Kansas Mafia types is it?

69_500

Wow, it looks like $180 won't do it now either. Out of my league now. More money than I want to spend just to put something in a box.

Sorry.. a little slow in seeing this on. 69 STL tags show both upper and lower paint codes for all cars regardless if they have a vinyl top or even if they were convertibles. This is one way to spot a badly remade tag. (See attachment. 69 STL convertible with only one paint code)

Also, FWIW... the same holds true for A body convertibles at 69 Hamtramck; only one paint code just like the vinyl top cars.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, Charger 500s could not come with a vinyl top so all of them should show two paint codes.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

:yesnod:  My car has a Vinly Top and it shows two paint codes.  I have assumed that the VT was a later add on.
