Thank god we have you to educate us uninformed people.  Now, if only these money grubber sellers would get informed it would save us the agravation of doing alot of homework

Resources like this board and sites like Aerowarriors.com have done more for the collective pool of knowledge about Wing Cars than anything else, in my book anyway.  The respective club newsletters are great too, but that search button at the top of this page is just such a handy little critter!

Oh, and I sure hope you weren't intimating that I'm the ultimate source of information on Daytonas - as that's certainly not the case...

I'm in such awe of you wing guys, like nascarxx29, dane, doug, you and many others.  You guys have tracked and logged many wing cars and can tell who owns what and where they are.  It's just truly amazing!!  Thanks guys

Gene does your car have the tich toch tach?  or was that option standard on Daytonas?

Nope, no N85 Tach coded on my car - wish it were   :'( .  It wasn't a mandatory option, although a quick look at what information I have shows that about 1/2 of the cars came with the Tach.

I recall for the tach to be on the daytona required a performance axle package.I have seen alot of non tach cars with tachs.Either look for the N85 fender tag code .Or look for the the hole location on the bulkhead and correct grommet and gray wire connector on the firewall.Seen alot of cars with tachs that didnt have the hole pl;acement or no hole used .They ran the wires for the tach into the car by using the speedometer cable

I had always assumed that the number of cars with tachs' would be higher for 4 speed cars than AT's, but now that I get to looking at the information I have on 500's, it doesn't seem the case. It seems that just as many 4 speed cars didnt have one as had one.

John's car is pretty loaded up. PW, Cruise, AM/8Track, 6 way seat (or whatever that is), etc.

BTW, Could you get rear-defogger in a Daytona?  :shruggy:

nascarxx29

I got a copy of his buildsheet have to see if at all the option is marked off.I cant recall seeing a daytona with it .As with a rear defrost car.Wouldnt the switch for it be obvious on the instrument cluster.looked and been around  at alot of daytonas .
Cant say I recall seeing the extra switch

it hangs next to the heater controls from the metal frame of the dash itself.  apparently, "all" (now "more than some") canadian cars came with them.

anyone with a US spec defroster car???

nascarxx29

This switch which has rear window on one side and on the other .It says top .Came from a 70 b body hardtop parts car.It I believe used a similar mount and location as a 70 b body convertible.Underside of dash on the left bellow the dash pad edge left of heater controls.I was thinking 69 had it on the dash cluster as 68 chargers Ive seen

I was thinking that a certain board member with a Daytona and a matching C500 would chime in. I know his 500 has the rear window defroster, but I thought that his Daytona did too.

Alaskan_TA

For those of you that track this kind of thing from known cars....

How many 500s are known with column shift?

Daytonas?

What are the numbers for auto with console shift vs. column shift cars for each?

Just curious.

Barry,

I'll do some checking here in a little bit this afternoon. But off the top of my head I can name 2 HEMI 500's VIN"s that are definately AT's on the column from the factory. 224396, and 248663. I know there are more but thsoe two are the first to come to mind.

nascarxx29

I can only recall seeing one column automatic daytona.A original A4 silver.I have its vin and other info I recorded from it.I saw it in Houston TX.It later got sold in 87 in TX .Then it came to the east coast .And I saw it again .And met the guy who had it in NJ  was Pat D had owned it. and sold it to George.Who turned out to be the guy who sold my friend. Bill the white on red on daytona seen in supercars book.his name was George Harrison like the famous beatle  .He had the car in a mopar magazine 80- or 90s wearing PA plates 69 WING XX29L9B402971.When George had it was black with tinted windows centerlines. And after market floor shifter.

As far as Daytona's go I know that the red on red car my dad used to own was an AT on the column as well.

Hello All.   Danny my Daytona was not a rear window defroster car, but the 500 is. Both cars are column shift R4 with black interiors. I got the 500 out last week for the first time in almost two years and took it to one of the local cruses. Lots of people around hear never saw a real 500 before and dont know what they are looking at. I think i like to drive the 500 more than the Daytona some times as it just seams to drive more easlily, 3.23 versus 3.55 and you dont have all the extra car out in front. Allso the 500 has factory disc brakes and will stop faster than the Daytona with drums. Both cars have factory tachs, am radios and power steering. Love them both,  so witch one will i drive today, i guess i will flip a coin. :icon_smile_big:   Jay.

Sorry for chiming in late to your question, Barry...  I didn't have the chance to check my records until this morning (I keep them here on the office PC).

So far, I have a record of 16 column-shifted automatic Daytonas -- but I don't have full Fender Tag information on all those 16 cars much less all of the known-to-exist cars.  All of the ones that had been mentioned in this thread were already logged as column-shifted cars, except that Danny's dad's former car is 409045 (I'll bet this week's paycheck that Danny quoted that VIN from memory, which I probably couldn't do for any other cars but my own    )

It is interesting to see some of the patterns emerge, such as what Barry alluded to with 402978 and 402971.  A few other close VINs from that list of 16 cars are 402961, 402983 and 402984.  The more information we can compile, the better the overall picture will become.

I get the same response with my C500 when I take her out to the local Sat. night cruise spot.. Our spot will typically have over 300 cars on any given Sat. night. This weekend since the front came through and the humidity went down, we had over 400 cars in the Kroger parking lot.. I get the responses of, "Man, you drove this C500 out here?" to "Is that a real C500?". It's interesting to sit back in my chair and watch the people, who seem to know what their looking at, explain to a buddy or wife what's up with that rear window... Then you get the, "Why does this Charger have a flush Coronet grille?, Why did you do that?"   :scratchchin:

Hopefully this '68 j-code of mine will allow me to ask, "Am I taking the wing or wingless out tonight?"   :icon_smile_big:
