I know that cold starts are hard on a motor.  As a rule of thumb, and without any good technical reason, I always wait until the engine temp rises above 150 before I ever decide to step into it.  Is there any common recommended standard about this? ...always been curious.  Thanks.

Just cause the engine water temp is at 150, what are the valve springs at ?
The Oil ?
The internal mass metal in the Rods ?

Time @ temp., divided by 10,  is usually a good rule of thumb, for YOUR given operating temp.
Let the engine "thermally stabilize" prior to wooping on it.

150 degrees, divided by 10, equals 15 minutes.

Just my opinion
