:ahum:  :scope: . after looking at the roof line more in the front, it looks like it's been crushed slightly.......... I'm not one for another major project being that I have the '68 so close.., But, who knows......................  Maybe Dave can chime in since he knows the car.................

But, as they say, "nothing ventured nothing gained" .......... Man, I'm getting tired of that saying. lol

If that is the same one with the kink in the roof, I find it very funny that it says "damage isn't structural" in the ebay ad. I've seen it in person & there wasn't a straight panel on that car.   ::)

No, that is not the same car.  I'll look up the thread after while where we discussed that possibility.  David Patik used to own the car on eBay, which NEVER spent time in Oklahoma (it was originally a PA car).  I think way-back-when some people jumped to the conclusion that this was the flood car because of the roof damage, etc.  That's how urban legends get started...

nascarxx29

It traces back to Ernie P and whos name it was under in the old records.Who I talked to at carlisle.Car sold in PA he sold it to Dave Patik. And Galen ran a ad a while back in MGC for a few daytonas of Daves for 14K .Would have got you one of the 4 for sale I recall. This is how Tom in NY got his hands on it .So this car as Hemi Geno says for this reason and more in the picture details of the 2 cars. That this car was not in Kansas.Even though both have roof damage

Nope. He wants Dana and cash.. I'd have to sell the '68.. If I got a nice penny for it, the money left over I would try and find a nice-done Mopar like a Road Runner or XP Charger... If I make a good-penny, maybe another R/T to go with the Daytona and I would still have three Mopes.....

the car really isn't that bad.  really.

i feel bad for it--as doug S said earlier he may just be fishing, but think of what a couple spray cans of paint would do for the auction, or primer the front clip, install the doors, and see if you can get it to fire up.  the car needs no more than any rusty quartered car would to get going, and it has everything there!  it may not be cake, but it's wonder bread, at least.

Well not sure if he has a Van Goh on his hands or not, but what I know that he does have is a REAL Daytona. Which is more than I can say.

Mopurr

So....

This is the F6 car that was in Iowa about 10yrs ago.

We almost went for it then Galen said there was no title, then called back said there was but to late in the day for money from the bank to go.

But also implied that someone else would be there to look and the most money took it home, Brent was not going to Iowa to get in a bidding war.

In the long run it all worked out so much better for us and we had a much nicer car to restore.

Not the flood car .That car and vin logs to PA selling dealership and a NJ owner that sold it to Dave P .But followed the auction and know the owner and wish him well with this auction.Heres some of the Q & A pertaining to the car

Q:  Hello, I was just curious as to what happened to the yellow Daytona used for parts on this Daytona. Oct-09-07
A:   That is great question but I truly do not know. I can tell you that it cost more then my '68 Barracuda Super Stock car. Just for laughs call afew MoPar dealers both locally and nationally and tell them you need an authentic steel Daytona nose. Then find the website of the guy that makes the noses from scratch out of steel and get a price from him. Then email me back and let me know if you still think the price of this car is too much. My guess is that yellow Daytona got friggin' hammered. Take care- Jeff
Q:  Okay, maybe this isn't a question. Ya' know, if I had twice the money, I might consider buyin' it, 'cause I'd certainly sink it into that piece of history. I went to a show about 20 years ago, and saw a couple of those with the original sticker still in the window, 'cause somebody had the foresight to hang onto something like that, and at the time, the cars were worth about 35 - 45 thou, according to the original owners. My how times have changed. With a Hemi cuda convertible recently goin' for 2-point-something million, I don't guess your askin' price is all that unreasonable... people often trash what they can't have. I hope you get what you want for it, but I really wish you could afford to keep it, and give it the attention it deserves. Unless of course, you wanted to give it to me........ Oct-09-07
A:   Thanks. True story: there is a gravestone near where my Father is buried that is carved in the shape of a wing car. Saw it with my own eyes. I wonder what he would have sold his for; or traded for it? Take care - Jeff
Q:  I love the daytona, but out of my price range. IS the orange car for sale? Looks like a 70 charger. Thanks. Oct-07-07
A:   1970 R/T V code ALL #'s matching 440 six pak 18 spline four speed 4.10 DANA car. I drove it to the Enlishtown MoPar show this May. 1 of 109. EVERYTHING is for sale.....
Q:  Car looks like its worth nothing but seriously, I am curious. Im not big on car history why is it worth this much and why are other cars like it worth so much. Thanks  Oct-06-07
A:   Vincent Van Gogh died destitute and poor and years after his death his paintings that cost nothing in material are treasured and sell for extraordinary money. Why? In 1969 NASCAR (Winston CUP, damn it!) still required that a race car have a dealer sold street legal car to justify it being raced as a STOCK car. Dodge built 503 of these cars and on the track the big ugly nose and wing made it the first car to top 200 mph on a closed course. At the dealership however, no one bought them all too much and some lingered and were eventually purchase by the dealership owners. When the automotive collector market burst in the 80's a hobby slowly grew into a genuine investment market. The steriotyped grease monkey / gear head who prized his original one of few musclecar now had a car that was worth a signifigant amount of money. My friend once sold a 1962 Hess to truck for 1300.00 that cost 11 cents in '62. Why? How come a gallon of milk costs more then a gallon of gas and people only complain about the latter? so I guess everything on earth is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Thank you for the question, - Jeff
Q:  hey dude the car is great.real history and if those shit brain so call car guys new anything they would be praising the car for being all orig and untouched.hope u find a buyer. Oct-06-07
A:   Thanks, there are some Charger and/or wing car sites that have the original news article with the car on its roof on a dry river bed. Have you seen the MoPar Collectors guide with all the damaged cars from hurricane Katrina? Worst that ever happened to me was my 60ft weeping willow tree dropped on two Z-28's and a Malibu drag car. Missed the 'Cudas though so I haven't built a GM since. Take care - Jeff
Q:  I notice alot of retards trying give you comments on a car they know nothing about. I hope you find a buyer who does want it and happy. Hopfully the day dreaming "joe dirt" clan members will go back to complaining about the prices of slant 6 valiants again. Good luck, moparts. Oct-05-07
A:   Two PLEASANT Joe Dirt references in a row, and both from guys with over 250 feedback at 100% +. My faith is replenished. Thanks - Jeff
Q:  Ignore the idiots who know no better. This car is a goldmine of awesomeness. I wish I had the money for it, I'd actually drive it as is ala Joe Dirt and love it. A dreamcar in the rough. Perfect color combo too. Great car, great car, great car. Does it have a back story? I mean 47K on the ticker it must've retired early for some reason. Oct-05-07
A:   Thanks. Briefly: hit in center nose 1972. Car in body shop. Damn breaks. Car and shop swept away in flood. Man with 19 wing cars buy it cause its structurally straight as an arrow and only sheetmetal damaged. My friend Tom buys it through Galen at GTS and then buys REAL nose / wing and stores it for years. If this car was never hit in the nose it would probably be a SURVIVOR class car worth well over a 1/4 mil. We have real (NON EBAY) offer for around double the mileage. Nothing like a week of national advertising for 44.00 bucks. I love this country. My father parachuted out of planes with a M1 Garand on his back and my brother is underwater on an attack sub four months a year so every single expert in America can throw their opinion in my face. (Much love to the 82nd Airborne and the SSN Louisville as well as all our armed forces). You take care and believe me I wish I had the money too. I sat in the car twenty minutes tonight and it was a better time then a twenty minute lap dance at SCORES. Well, maybe thats a lie. Be well
Q:  Are you serious?! This car looks like something my dog threw up after it ate it's own diarrhea. However, I am interested in purchasing it for my masochistic swedish porn, shot outside of Abu Dabi in the United Arab Emerites. I can only offer you pleasure from a midget that just happens to be a two time transvestite (i know, its awesome). I'm also willing to throw in a copy of my award winning dvd, "How many lightbulbs can you fit in there: VI". Let me know. -Van Analhymen  Oct-05-07
A:   You are the coolest person on earth.
Q:  Isn't this the same car that was at The Mopar nationals that had flipped over upside down in a flood? If so, more info please? Oct-05-07
A:   Email Tom your number. Thanks
Q:  Being serious why would someone pay 130k for a car that needs total restore?? Oct-05-07
A:   I have personally pent 30G's on a 'Cuda that will be worth about 15,000 when its done. And it ain't close to done. I know what restorations cost. I know what John Q. public pays and I know what me and my associates pay. John Q. pays alot more. Lets just say hypothetically that someone buys this car outright. Other then a windshield there will be NO costly searching for parts. There will be no years of searching for missing items. There is no VIN sequence on sheetmetal so the nose for all intents and purposes is correct. So again, hypothetically if this person owns a shop, lets just say in the east coast and there is a light winter this person could keep his guys working on this car. I have spoken to the owner of Auto Rust technicians in the past with reference to repair costs. A shop owner just laying out labor could complete this car for UNDER (way under) 40 G's and have enough cash left to take a month off and go on Hot Rods Power Tour. This car isn't for me, in fact it is not for most. This gas crunch economy will not last. Values will go up, after all, they aren't making any more. If you had a crystal ball in 1986 would you not have purchased at least two of the 547 McLaren Buick Grand Nationals produced? I saw a rat infested hammered original aluminum 289 FIA Cobra go over 80G's way before the Barrett Jackson craze put its mark on the world. I thank you for your question and if the C5 in your user name is for Corvette contact me, my neighbor just had a sick LS engine put in his '02 Z06 and someone creamed him at a stoplight. I you need stuff I think he still has it. Be well and thanks - Jeff
Q:  You can't be serious about this price. A beautiful 70/69 is for sale for one third the price and 100 times the car. Looks like clowns should be driving this Oct-05-07
A:   This car is original to the belts. When you see and original 66 Shelby Cobra for sale for for five hundred grand that needs a resto kindly call the seller a clown and inform him that MINT kit cars sell for 40,000. Why don't you just focus on paying off that 92 Caravan in your driveway. F

I read that answer in the Q&A also - but his statement does not change the facts.

Have you read the other threads on this subject, where the history of Tom's car is spelled out, as is the fate of the "real" flood car from that picture?    :rotz:

nascarxx29

As we know its not the flood car by the compiled proof. If it was it might have attracted a buyer due to its uniqueness of being that famed celebrity daytona. As the burned daytona from TX that brought $40K on ebay. For years I had people  asking me to find them a affordable wingcar/ daytona.Everybody passed on the rough daytona for $10K from Canada .That Petty bird ended up buying.Adding a celebrity to the equation doesnt hurt .It was good for the 440 Big Willie car that did $250K
