In the video, there is a '69 Orange Daytona w/a white vinyl top and stripe. Anybody know of the car? I did have a photo of it a long time ago, but it was on my old computer which is long gone. Thanks for any info. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxwxsFsNjq8

Heard it all before -- last time you recommended jail time.   :rotz:

There should be jail time for destroying a car like that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Larry, it would probably take just as much time to convert your clone back into its factory-intended configuration as it would to take that Jeff Phillips car (from 1985 and considered quite stylish then) back to original.

Is jail time appropriate for your car's "desecration" too?   :shruggy:  ;)  :coolgleamA:

BTW, I'm not slamming clones, only trying to make a point.  I still cannot begin to understand why you see fit to :RantExplode: every car that was customized back when the standards were vastly different.  No, it's not my taste at all, but it's not like this car's restoration was finished yesterday using all that chrome, etc.

Out of curiosity, what's your opinion of Mr. Angry (Mike Musto's BullRun '68 Charger)?  It's been customized too - should he be jailed?  In 20 years, a resto mod might be just as much of an oddity as Joe's Daytona is to us today.  Heck, a factory-correct restoration effort like I'm trying to do with my Daytona might be considered passe as well.  Times change, so do styles.  Give it a rest.

Annie

Mike came down to our house a couple weeks ago to get parts for his Charger. I can't wait to see it finished.

You have been into one type of Mopar for what? Maybe a year or two? You will NEVER get it Larry. What people did with their cars at whatever period of time will never sink in to your head. The sooner you dump your project and go back to boats or Chevy's, the better for everyone on this board. It sucks when guy's like you come on here and have no respect for the cars that guys like you are trying to build and make profit from. You slam every REAL Daytona that you look at.

Is this it its one of Del F Arlington TX.

When Del still owned that car, he drove it often to shows.  I took that picture in Bastrop, Texas... about a 250 mile drive from Arlington.

Very nice car... not a concours restoration, but much more fun IMO!

bashing aside, i LOVE old psychedelic paint schemes, but can't stand to see a freshly restored car painted the wrong color...

a friend of mine just looked at a '71 cuda hemi convertible clone.  it was an original GY3 curious yellow car, and they painted it pink.  fine, some people don't like green on green, but this was already a high impact color!

then again, if it was done in 1978, i'd be all for it.   not that i have issues or anything...

69_500

 :scratchchin:

I'm close on what Doug just said. But then again I don't like many cars at all that have a color change period. Even if its a drab color, and yeah my opinion of a drab color  is just an opinion. I've always been told that if I want a car in a certain color, often all it requires is a little more searching and you can find one that came that way. No need to paint a green car red, or a blue car black, just look a little longer and you'll find one that came factory in the color desired. Often that is, not always. With the aero cars included, there isn't many colors that are limited to less than 10 or so cars.

dads_69

I didn't realize I would  :stirthepot: by asking about this certain Daytona. Wow, comes to mind, being nice,ha-ha. I like the car,it has that 70's look about it,but the hood scoop isn't my forte, oh well. I do want to know also, is it a factory color orange-ish red or?

Mark, if you're referring to Del F's Daytona with the white top and stripe with 440, I believe it's V2 or close to R4. I have some old pics, I'll see if I can get one.. Those pictures were taken a long time ago.. Last time I saw Del's car was about '90....  And no, it's not Rust olem brown.

Except for our purple one here....I took a 1/18th Ertl diecast Daytona apart and repainted it purple, put it back together, and showed Mrs. Wing what it would look like all done....she liked it, so we did it....and ever since then, it's been her car. She just lets me work on it and drive it once in a while.

I believe Del's car was V2, although it might have been a non original color when it had the vinyl top.  Here is a new scan of the Bastrop meet picture in the mid 1980s and a later picture after the Daytona was repainted and the vinyl top deleted... Like I said, he drove it!  :2thumbs:

--as is, but the correct red, add black, and sub in my favorite blue in '70.  if you must, add in moulin rouge and plum crazy.  too bad sassy grass green wasn't available early enough--i MUCH prefer that to limelight--the metallic adds so much depth.

then again, it would be REALLY cool if the colors were wide open like daytonas!  imagine rolling around in a pebble beige, gold or ice blue 'bird--and open interior colors.  they are my favorite cars ever, bar none, but compared to the weird combos you see with daytonas, superbirds are boring.  since the backlights were done in house, it would have been even easier to install any interior color in the catalogue--

And those FK 5 burnt orange ones. like the one Dave Jones /Mason Dixon had slipped through. As reported in a old newsletter says they misread EK2 upside down

see, i think it's a LOT more probable that the cars would have been limelight--turning EK2 upside down is a lot less probable in my mind than fat-fingering FJ5 into FK5...does anyone know definitively?  the dave jones car looks totally awesome to me in that color.

Actually, the more I look at the orange Daytona, the more I like it....except for the hood scoop.  :scratchchin:

Bryan  (people say crap about our car also, I just consider the source)   :Twocents:

I actually love the hoodscoop.  I'm curious about the wheels.  Are they Lamborghini wheels?

As far as your car, bryan.  It is awesome  :2thumbs:, but don't post any pics, because Mr. Poopy pants will have nothing but bad things to say

Hey Dave I'm going to guess that the daytona in the magazine you just posted is GENO's car. Just a guess, but it appears to be wearing a Missouri tag. Of course there were something like 22 or so Daytona's sold in MO, but it is a long shot right? Or do you know for sure who's car it is?

I thought that there was some paperwork from chrysler spelling out that you could have actually ordered an FK5 car, but that it was a special form or something that had to be filled out. And i'm thinking that I've heard that there are 3 of the FK5 cars out there now. Wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong though on Superbirds. I don't pay as much attention to them as Daytona's or 500's.

So Doug, you like the Superbirds more than the Daytona's? Do you think that has anything to do with what cars your dad and mom held on to for so many years? I often wonder if I like the Daytona more than the Superbird because of the ratio of them that my dad had. 5 Daytona's versus 2 Superbirds. Just curious, as I haven't ran into many other people close to my age, or too many other period that grew up around the wing cars with their parents owning a few.

I honestly thought that for a few seconds too, but there are a few things that indicate it's not my car:

The one in the picture has a remote rear-view mirror, mine has a manual
Missouri's plates back in 1969 were actually off-white with green letters, and 1970's plates were off-white with black letters.  In 1971 they did go to the red background and white letters, but even more importantly - they only used one plate (and it was mounted on the rear of the car).

I think it's much more likely to be a 1969 Michigan plate which was red with a white background on both the front & back.  Here's a handy-dandy link to 1969-present state license plate formats:

http://www.15q.net

It's possible that was a 1969 manufacturer plate - a la the green 1970 Daytona, as that was also a red plate w/ white letters.  If they just borrowed a car from Creative's parking lot for the PR shot with Mr. Rodger, it could have been any R4/Black interior/Black stripe car that was destined for about anywhere.  Considering R4 was the most common exterior color and Black was the most common interior color, they couldn't have picked a more "typical" Daytona combination.

I wasn't sure if the picture posted was actually supposed to be in the 1969 year, or just in the 70's. As I know that later on MO plates were that color. Your right though the plates on the test drive cars from 69 in Michigan are that color as well. Hmm, so who has an R4 red car with a plate holder in the front?

pettybird

that is a '69 michigan plate

Ghoste

I believe that pic is also taken on Hamtramk's famous (or infamous if you take in account the Watermelon 70 Daytona conspiracy) circular pad.
