I don't have any more information on that one either. I ran into Steve Klein this year, but the fact that he had a C500 totally slipped my memory when I was talking to him.

Hello,

I was snooping around the net and ran into this thread and registered on the site right away. I am the owner of this Charger 500. Unfortunately I have not gained much more information since this thread took place several years ago. I have just been collecting parts for the car and have not even started the restoration. If any of you have any further info on my 500 I would be eternally grateful for it. Thanks, sorry it took me so long to find this site...

That green 69 500 210749 that ended up in my friends private mopar junkyard.By the way of Bill Wiesman who found that car in Pleasantville NJ.He also had a R4 red Hemi 500.That went to the Don Garlits collection. The green car was used for parts. And Bill gave the mopar yard owner the leftover car.The owner of the yard .Bert is a deep mopar enthusisit/ drag racer who grabbed up these cars all over the area when he found them. And is where us locals went for parts. And to gawk at coded R V 6 pack etc cars sitting in the yard.Thats were those cars ear marked as Berts car dont touch .Bert worked at Cinnaminson dodge back in the day .Also the 157499 Y4 gold then Jim Bensons/ Buddy Arringtons 69 500 was at that yard getting ready for paint unassembled with tons of NOS parts the 500 was at one time wearing a vinyl top.Jim called changed him mind and said it all could go as is $3500.00.That one left first .I kept asking know and then for the green one for whole or parts.Though parts is really all I had interest in.And the car looked bad..But could get the whole car for a $1000.00.So later in my wingcar newsletter.I see wanted backwindow/ trim wanted to finish a daytona.Told Gary Mendelow in Ohio about this car.He gets it takes what he need from it .And takes the rest to the mopar nats .And I heard Steve Kiesel purchases it to restore.I gave Steve a call.Who I talked to at the 92-94 Indy nats and saved his phone number..And give him the phone number to the yard it was in and all known details on this car origins. And would like to see current follow up pictures. To see how its coming along.I made photo enlargements of this car. And to this day its in the mopar yards office. And they are glad the car is getting a second chance at life

I can remember Paul K Tom M from N NJ having R4 red charger 500s and a some in N.Y .And when I read the Hector Almonte 224394 Inquiry of Mikes on another board sometime back.I knew a friend who knew Hector Almonte.Way before this I had this lead heard Hector had a daytona. But it never panned out.Had a similar lead from a person stationed on NJ military base saw a R4 red daytona.Later it turned out to be Propane X former R4 red Hemi 500.So these are some of the NJ 500's I am aquainted with. And the daytona with 6700 mile he mentioned I believe is the vinyl top blue daytona.Mike made contact in 4 7 02 4 8 02.looking forward to see what progress has been made

Welcome to the site Mike. I think you would already probably know much we would all love to see more pictures of the car. I know for one that I would love to see some more of it.

Skipping ahead a few post, Dave, I'm having a really hard time making heads or tails of your two post in this thread. I seem to have lost my decoder ring today. Can't connect the dots from one statement to the next. It could be just me today though, rough day, and too stuffed on food to think.

nascarxx29

Those are the 2 cars mentioned in that older thread .The green car remains at the same stand point at this time .Nothing new there to update .Unless the life story .I recalled finds its way to its owner by reading or someone who knows notifys owner. And or by some coincedence as Mike did with the second charger 500 which is Red. Of the 2 cars I Am involved with stumbled on to this site and reads it .Mike who last contact was 4/ 07/ 02/  4/ 08/ 02 ..At that time I gave him all relative info and contacts..And nothing on my end has changed on the R4 cars life info.I await to see what he has to say and what developed with the car 6 years later

Read the two post again today, and things make more sense. Last night I think I had a bit of a bout with turkey brain, and overeating.

charger500440

Hello again. Have a little time now to update you on my car. Unfortunately I do not have as much to report as I would like but here goes. Way back in '02 (shortly after I bought the car in 12/01) is when this thread originated. nascarxx29 lead me to Paul K who was extremely friendly and helpful. Thank you both. He was able to get me in touch with Hector A. He was the owner responsible for buying up the car in the mid-80's and bringing it to the east coast. He is also responsible for much of the tear down and work done to the car. He was enjoyable to speak with but is extremely elusive. I've never been able to get back in touch with him. The car is basically a rolling shell. So all I have are the dash, vin plate, number stamp on the support and trunk lip (all match). No tag or b-cast sheet. Everything else is removed except the susp and broken w'shield.
-
The good news is the body is excellent. NOS rocker and rt side QP (according to Hector), solid floors and rails, good doors, NOS fenders. No major rot anywhere. Trunk floor is a little soft from rust in spots. Hector was in the process of moving and said all his stuff was in boxes. He did not think he had any parts or info left on this car but wasn't sure. He has my info but I doubt I will ever be able to get a hold of him again. This is what I know about the car.

1- Hector bought it out of Hemming's Motor News in the mid-80's. Car was in Montana (or thereabouts).
2- He told me the car was a west coast built and sold car. Presumed it was sold in Washington state when new.
3- It's R4, black interior, 440, auto, console, white stripe, dog dish caps, disk brakes. 8 3/4 rear.
4- He started restoring the car with the intention of putting a six-pack, 4-spd, and dana in it. I have the six-pack and sold off the few 4-spd parts. No dana.
5- One of my ultimate frustrations, he remembers removing the fender tag during the tear down. The engine compartment and support were painted not too long before he sold the car. It's out there somewhere.
6- A Daytona/Superbird friend of mine here in CT checked my VIN with the winged/aero registry. Mine is not on there but a R4, black stripe 500 two serial numbers up from mine was sold new in California and a R4, white stripe 500 one serial number down from mine was sold in CA or OR originally. So I am confident the car is what I think it is.
7- 224396 is on the 69 Charger registry (black vinyl top).

I would love to get further documentation on the car but either way it will be restored. Galen suggested I part the car out due to it's lack of documentation. So unless he somehow physically gets his hands on something of value to me I would not give him the time of day. Much less any of my money.

As far as the car goes, buying a house, working on said house, building a new garage to put the 500 and my SE in, and other distractions have kept me from working on the car. However I have been collecting parts. I believe I have every 500/Daytona specific part I need except the grille mounting parts. Haven't gotten that far yet. I did pass on an original C500 header panel for $1500.00. Too much $ at the time. I will post pics real soon. Thanks for the interest in my little story...

Okay I can fill in a few cars that are close to yours in VIN's anyways.

224393 is my car. R4 red, white interior, white tail stripe. 440 AT car. Sold new in North Dakotoa, later owner moved to AZ, then sold back to his buddy in Montana. All of this happened before 1974. I bought the car off of the 3rd owner in 2004.

224396 was my dad's car when I was little. R4 red, black interior, black tail stripe. HEMI car with a dealer installed vinyl top (not factory). Car was converted to a 4 speed in the mid 70's but was a factory AT on the column car.

224389 is the closest car that I know of that is before mine, and it is F5 green, AT, with A/C. Car had a Daytona front clip and wing on it recently, and was a car i was interested in, but couldn't come up with the money.

As far as your car 224394 I have it down as being built on November 28th, 1968. And that it is a known car that was R4 red.

Would love to know about car 224392 though. That would make 3 cars in a row that were R4 red.

charger500440

69_500 how cool is that? At some point our cars were nose to tail. Go figure. Thank you for the info and it also amazes me you and your father had cars this close together. What are the odds of that? I had the states messed up but I knew the cars were all out west. Good thing in my case because there really is little to no rust on it and it was neglected over the years.

The guy I got the car from was a little vague and acted oddly when I purchased the car. It had been for sale on Moparts for a few weeks when my boss at the time found the add. So I was nervous that the car was not genuine. The condition of the VIN and the rear window plug gave me the impression the car was real. They appear to have never been played around with. So I purchased the car. Thanks again, at some point we should reunite our cars...

Well I was trying to purchase one of my dad's other cars when I bought the 500 that I have now. I was trying to work a deal for the Q5 500 that my dad had when I was a kid, but that deal fell through, and 3 days later I came accross the 500 that I have now.

Oddly enough though my car was built on November 20th though, or at least scheduled to be built then.
I would say they could be reunited at Talladega in 2009 but from the sounds of it, your car won't be there then. would love to see it though. The people on this board know me well enough to know that I'd like to see all of the 500's that were built. Been working towards it for a while now, I think I've probably seen around 130-135 of them in the last 15 years.

nascarxx29

Not a bad update there Mike .I still can get in touch with Paul.If it was possible to retrieve the 80 Hemmings ad would that help in anyway.
