I see they duplicated the original markings on the rearend. What's up with the painting of the rails? Looks like they taped them off. This wasn't original....right?

HOLY CRAP that car went together fast!!!  it was a SHELL at the DSAC meet!

nice job on the body--don't look at it for reference, though...too many things done for concours status rather than originality.  colin was a really great host to us, too--that was an awesome stop.

69_500

Just curious but did anyone notice that they say it is 1 of 2 that is painted R6 red? Where do they get that low ball figure from? Heck I know of more than 2 R6 red Daytona's. Heck I know of 2 that were 4 speed cars that are R6 red.

The70RT

I see it was on a rotissorie. I thought it was best that the doors and fenders were put on after the suspension? I was going to do mine like that but heard different?

I'm no bodyman for damned sure but I tend to think like you.  I'd like to see doors and fenders added after the suspension.  :shruggy:

Whats with the rear R/T emblem?

pettybird

"If you know Daytonas, you will also catch some very rare early production features such as the rear panel "R/T" emblem and the lack of stainless trim on the front A pillars. Multiple Daytona experts have inspected this car (including Galen Govier who has known it for over 22 years) and confirm this is one of the few cars that "snuck out" with these features."

if they say so...

"to insure that there is not a finer or more correctly restored Daytona."

again with the 'correctness' thing...  fenders painted on the car with seam sealer, full front wheelwell undercoating, gleaming underhood, etc...  it's gorgeous but by no means reference.

cool guy that bought it, too--traded in a turquoise '68 charger R/T on the daytona...nice.

Beautiful car.....too bad I cant save the pics.   They seem to be links & not actual pics :(

I've heard of Mr.Norm, and actually met him too. Never heard of Mr.Nom though.
I'm thinking we need MORE pictures from that DSAC meet Pettybird!!

As well, Ron Slobe  :engel016:  also had a T5 Daytona with the R/T emblem on the tailight panel.

As far as downloading the Daytona pictures, hit the "print screen" button on your keyboard, open MSN Paint, and then "edit-paste"...then save.
It'll require a bit of trimming afterwards....

story is it'a early production screw up is the jist I got , same with the r/t emblem ?

69_500

Early production screw up? Hmmm, so 6 months after they do the 500's they mess up on the Daytona's? Does anyone have anything to back this "screw up" up with?

Troy

The link enclosing the pictures is what is screwing you guys up. There's no magic there - certainly not enough to copy/paste/save using another program. The real link to the pictures looks something like this:
http://www.colinsclassicauto.com/cars/car338/p1.jpg

Other than that, I know nothing about the car or its correctness... :D

an illustrious panel of daytona experts, of course!

what # was this car in the build?  the thing that bothers me about the two details is that chrysler would have screwed up the emblem AND creative screwed up the a pillar moldings.

IF the holes are there in the back, and NOT in the front, it kinda has to be...how weird that two different shops screwed up the same car.

nascarxx29

That car has a 5-14 build dates and is car #180 on daytona shiplist

now an illinois plate expert  but will they let you register cars on the old plates not and let them get away with truck plates ???
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

Mopurr

Guess they are going for the vintage plate look with Truck plates, IL  car 69 plates are an orange color. No truck plates can not be transferred across to a car in IL

But then again on their correctness of restoration they razor blade trimmed stripe edge inside the trunk.

Are there even holes drilled in the A pillars for mounting the chrome mouldings?

There's no way to tell since C500 and Daytona wind deflector moulding mounting points are UNDER the door weatherstrip channel....

As far as the rear emblem.. Are we sure that the Charger script was swapped out for the R/T emblem at the assembly plant? I mean, we all know all the Areo Dodges started life as a R/T.. Are the holes for the "Charger" script and the "R/T" emblem the same? I think they are. My point is, if the R/T emblems were still on the car when it showed up at Creative, there's a good chance the tech. and QC didn't catch the lack of emblem swap. I'm thinking they are the same for on my C500, there are no additional holes made to facilitate the Charger script that replaced the original "R/T" emblem.. So, Chrysler is less likely to have "messed up" on these two situations.... Also, like Danny has eluded to, the excuse for an early production run is bunk.... There was plenty of experience via the Charger 500 program...

I'm curious to see if there are holes under the door weatherstrip channel...

I'm pretty sure you can see the holes even with the door weatherstrip channel installed. I could be wrong, but you can make out at least 1/2 of the phillips head on the screw, so I'd assume you could see where the screw would go if the moulding wasn't on there and such. If I'm wrong feel free to  :slap:

UFO

The mounting holes for the rear emblem are different. Two holes for the R/T,three for the charger-arrow.

My understanding is that the car did not have existing holes that line up with the A-post mouldings.

I don't think it is any relation to Grand Spaulding Dodge.   It's a nice looking 1970 Charger based clone discussed recently here.

Looking at the resto pics I can honestly say they took a good swing at it. I have seen horrible resto's from many "name" shops and this one ain't terrible.
