Hi there I'm new to the site, I have a charger 500 440/4 speed , 3 build sheet and all paperwork when it new. The charger was sold new at Stanley Dodge National City, California on March 21, 1969. The color is F8 dark green with white stripe green interior all matching numbers. I have the original California tag that was issue in 1969, which is a black plate along with the California registration. The car is in mint condition. Its a cool car..

Welcome!  Does you post here mean you want to sell it??   :drool5:  If so, I'm all ears!  I'm looking into a couple auto cars right now, but the 4-speed is what I'm really after.  Is the car still here on the West Coast?  -Russ
The charger live in Florida now.

Yes, I believe runninhorn has already made a deposit on it, and it sounds like the car is going to a good family.  Hopefully I didn't make a big mistake here, but I'd like to think me being patient and holding out will help me find the car I really, really want.

Russ, how about finding an automatic C500 and doing a 4-speed conversion?  Or 5-speed conversion?

I have the numbers matching auto for my car and i could care less if it goes back in.  I want to bang thru the gears baby!!!   :drive:

Tremec TKO 5 speed is what im going for  :icon_smile_big:

So you are doing a conversion.  That will certainly make it more fun to drive!  Assuming the tranny in it now is original, be sure to store it in a good place, and service it before you do (change fluid, filter).  :Twocents:

yea, for sure. Still torn on what to do with it. I dont want to butcher a #'s car, but then again, I bought it to drive it and ive already done one Tremec conversion, only thing this one will be a auto to a manual and the last one was a manual to a manual. Thinking of yanking the 440 as well, maybe putting both in storage.

The 5-speed is a good idea.. I know whether I keep Dana or get the Daytona (which is  a 4-speed as well), I'd love to put the overdrive setup.. Definitely more fun on the streets/highways.................

i'm warming to the idea to put a newer overdrive 833 in the bird.  the 5 speed thing means trimming the floor...

The amount of work needed on the floor hump isnt much, it would be easily reversed later with a small patch, a little dollying and some paint. :Twocents:

If the xmember would have needed mods I wouldnt have done it.

No, I'm not running it, as both of my cars have 3.54s - a tolerable gear for me anyway.  If I did more really long road-trips with the car (maybe someday!), I might consider it.  Just the 2-hour trips I make now with it are alright.  I had also kicked around the idea of changing out one of the three 18-spline crashboxes I have with that gearset, and then just swapping out the tranny if I wanted to do some cruising.  Back in the day, I could have the transmission out of my car in 20 minutes (OK, so it was an aluminum-case Muncie from my Pontiac that I could install by hand without a tranny jack).

Yet another thing on my never-ending "To Do" list.

With a Tremec TKO 5 speed tranny with OD, what rear gear would you guys go with? 3.91? or what?

I have the tremec tko and a 3.54 dana 60 in mine with 27.5 tall tires and it works good.

It depends somewhat on what tire you will be running.

Also , tremec has different 1st gear options too so that also will come into play, If you are getting it from Kiesler they can make the reccomendation off youre info.  :Twocents:

The 5-speeds have a steep first gear already, something like a 3:29 gear, in comparison to a 2:65 first gear in a hemi box. you don't need anything like a 3:91 to get the car moving.  3:55 at the most.  You'd blow through 1st gear instantly with a low rear gear.
