Here's another point to note:

That makes four things hemi-specific then:
1. Leaf Spring perch reenforcement plate - reference pic from thread
2. Rear framerail gussets - my '68 during painting prep.
3. Pinion snubber reenforcement plate - my '68 during painting prep.
4. Torque Boxes - my '68 during painting prep.

At the time I was there, the interior was completly out, except for the rug and door sill plates. All of the date-coded glass had yet to be put in, and all of the freshly restored window cranking mechanisms were staged for installation.

That was my complementary can of Coke in that picture.....couldn't shoot and drink at the same time!

Looks like everything is coming along very nicely. What is he planning on doing about covering the original teeth for the headliner? 2 cars that I looked at, had a partial piece of the original interior window trim cut and placed over these teeth to keep them from tearing anything on the new headliner. Although it wasn't necessarily something that was done on all of them. Just something to ponder over.

When I was there, I discussed with them the possibility of the headliner coming into contact with the sharp edges of the former rear window frame. I've seen several original 500's and Daytonas with serrations in the headliner where it's stretched over that point. I suggested maybe using duct tape to dull the edge?
I believe they did that...then, to be totally anal, I'm told that some door-edge guard might have been utilized for a better effect.

It's been a week since I took these pictures, and a lot has happened during that time. Lots of parts have found their way back on this Charger, but I'll exhaust my supply of shots before I start posting the new ones that find their way to me.
These are a few shots from the front. The paint was unbelievably deep and glossy!

A good example of the perfect reflectivity of the paint on this car!

As well, some shots of the headlight mounts. All of the trim (not shown) on the grille was either re-anodized or re-chrome plated. When I receive some pictures of that installation....you know you'll see them!

 :drool5: Love it so far.

Definately coming along very nicely.

Side note in case Carl is reading this thread too. Looked at some photo's of deck lids to several 500's when I got home this morning, as well as a deck lid on an unrestored 500 yesterday and none of them have the larger holes as your does. Just curious but are the holes for the deck lid bumpers the same size as the holes that are located in the center area of the trunk?

Carl1

Yes about 1/2". Don't know why they would be so big, they look factory. Could you ask others with early build cars if their's have big holes. Gene thought that the lids were not done by Creative, but another vender, if so maybe they built some ahead of time to have them in stock for the first batch of cars?? After that the vender might have gotten the take offs from Creative to alter?? Any help is welcome. Thanks, Carl

69_500

I looked at photo's of early cars especially and so far none have the larger holes for the trunk lid bumpers. I even looked at an unrestored car this weekend that is earlier than yours, and it didn't have large holes either. I will call the other 2 people that I know pretty well that have cars that are earlier than yours because I can't seem to find a photo of their trunk lids at this second. Will let you know though.

Because the original engine for this Hemi 500 is currently AWOL, the best substitute is a warranty block. And to designate that fact, this tag tells the story.

And this is how the factory affixed it to the engine.

Just in case you were wondering how the Charger made it onto it's suspension, the torsion bars were installed.
But first, they had to have the proper application of thick black paint applied, with the prerequisite drips, all in a row. Followed by the obligitory paint codes...in this case, for a Hemi-spec torsion bar.
