My 68 R/T came with the 14" red streak tires and the speedo pinion gear is the original as far as I know.  I'm currently running 295/50/15s which are about 26.6 inches tall.  So I'm driving down the road and they have one of those roadside radar things that tells you your speed in giant numbers.  It said 48 mph and I look at the speedo and it reads 48!  I was fairly surprised it was right on.  So I guess a 14" red line tire is the same height as a 295/50 - that's my point.  Over and out.

An F70-14 is 26.2" tall

Thanks.  I guess I was expecting a bigger error on the speedo, but a 1/2 inch more of height doesn't change the revs that much at that speed, I just never checked.  Everything else the same and put on a 275/60 and the error would be, like 3-5 mph, at least according to my best guess.  But that's a 28" tire.  No big deal

That's one of the reasons I used the 295/50/15 on the rear of my car when replacing the factory 14"...  :2thumbs:  Similar profiles...
