I had my brother-in-law convinced to go in halves on this car with me a few weeks ago and then I got cold feet and bailed.
Not enough dollars to buy this and a real superbird, My wife really wants a bird.  ;D

Every time I see that car up for sale I'm tempted to just drop the hammer and go after it. My wife would kill me though.

so would it be worth sleeping in the garage for a few months to just finally get one?  :scratchchin:

I put a pencil to it and figured that I could build the car myself for 40k. If the guy had sold it to us for 50k then we would have had less than 100k in the car.
I figured that the car could bring 150k even with it's history and non oem parts. A lof of work but not a bad investment.
Anyone see why the car wouldn't bring that much?

I agree with you partially on that one. It would also require parting with my 500 to do it too. The sleeping in the garage wouldn't be as bad as having to do without a car that is already up and running.

A couple of friends of mine are back to buying mopars on e-bay and flipping them locally.

My friends bought two chargers, both '70's. They gave 3k for one and 5k for the other. They then sold both of them locally for 5k and 8k within a week.
Maybe this means I'll be able to buy a bird for my wife after all. Maybe...maybe not.
The big difference is that the guys with the more expensive cars usually don't have to sell them so they just hold on to them for a while.

well once it gets to the serious amount for the car, we need to make sure no one runs the bid up on another member.. we should vote who is most worthy to get it(me of course) and the rest just not bid on it out of courtesy  :nana: . kidding of course.. seriously. if someone wants it for REAL we should let each other know what we are REALLY willing to pay so no one else here has to pay top dollar for it. i would back out if someone wants to pay more than i would.. all of this assuming the reserve even gets met, probably not

Back when I heard that the car could be bought for 50k, I was willing to go that much. Well, half since my brother-in-law was paying the other half. The car's about three hours north of here so going up to see it would have been simple enough. It's just that with my wife wanting a real bird, I was afraid that by buying this car, I would knock myself out of getting her the wingcar that she wants.
I say go for it if it can be bought for 50k. If you were to buy a decent 69 R/T to build a Daytona clone, you would spend at least 25k for the donor car and it still wouldn't be a real daytona when finished. With all of the nice repro parts available now, it won't be that hard to build this car.
I'll bet there are a lot of guys out there that would trade their 69 and 25k for this car. I would have, but it's too late. My 69 kind of looks like a daytona now.

The Daytona is starting to look like a much better deal.   ;D

Actually Ken, they're in better shape than I though they might be. I still don't see a 75k car there anywhere. Out of respect, I won't reveal where they are sitting. He might not appreciate the barrage of calls. He obviously doesn't want or need to sell them.
The green one is worse than the pics would indicate. The nose and right headlamp assembly are history, but he has an NOS nose for it. The right fender was damaged and the hood is bent. It's a bench seat auto on the column with a 440. The vitamin c orange car is a bucket seat console auto with a 440. The yellow one which is not for sale for any amount of money is a 440-6 car. The green one was titled for the first time recently. Seems like the orange one still has an MSO and has never been titled. Both had less than 50K when he parked them there. Don't know the history of the yellow one. The white one that he sold recently was a 440-6 car and according to him was by far the worst one of the bunch. Suuposedly these cars are all matching numbers cars. Just wish he would sell one of them for what it's worth. I don't have a problem giving their actual cash value.
I made arrangements with him to see the cars on Sunday. Might go anyway just to get the daytona pickup out for a road trip.

Hope the Oklahoma cars are nicer. At least they're supposed to be.

Any opinions on the true value of the south Arkansas cars?
He said that the floors are intact and supposedly the frame rails are okay.
Supposed to be complete and matching numbers.

I would agree but as I sit here I also would say this, if it is TRUELY something you want with all your HEART, then BUY IT and who cares about the price. (within reason of course).  I know if I had a chance to buy my dream car then I would belly up what I had to even if it was more than I wanted. to.

Second thought this guy will not budge off his price right, so, uless there is another 1920 and some odd birds around I dont see them around too often as decent projects?

GOOD LUCK LARRY

Tom

His counter offer was 60k and my unrestored 71 340 Cuda. The cuda is missing it's engine and and needs a total resto. Kind of wanted to restore the real 71 Cuda eventually and sell one of the other cuda clones. Heck, I would go 40k and the cuda for the orange bird.  ;D

It looked a million times better in red. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but why not leave a car with that much original paint as is if you are just going to sell it. It says a lot to me to see a car like that rather than "covered up" with a bunch or black primer. Waaaaaaaaay less cool factor all primed IMO also.

hotrod98

I think I read that they had actually started restoring the car and decided to sell. If I bought it, the first thing that would happen is media blast and get rid of the primer. I could never do body work over someone else's primer.

i saw it's for sale for 69900 on the website, if he lowered reserve i'd say it's either 50k or 60k

I thought that they may have gone with the 50k reserve originally and then lowered it from there. I may be wrong, but with the current economic forecast, they might want to take what they can get. My buddy put his 68 Coronet on e-bay last week and high bid was $800. Unless I find a bargain on a bird soon, I'm going to sit it out for a while and hope the prices go down instead of up.
Of course that logic bit me right on the backside the last time I used it.  :icon_smile_big:

same here.. i guess they got fed up and didn't relist. sometimes ebay does that for strange reasons. i had a jeep pulled one time for no apparent reason, turns out they wrote and said it had a reconstructed title and i didn't disclose it, so they ended the auction.. sure enough i went and looked at my title, and there it was a NY title,  reconstructed.. never knew it till ebay wrote me.. lol. i'd sure like to get the daytona project. only one i'll ever be able to get..

story was that he paid like 70 k for the car 2-3 years ago , not sure the reserve would be cheaper then that . I know the 50 k figure was thrown around earlier ?

I'm pretty sure he only gave in the ball park of $40-45K for the car. Because that is the price I was offered the car by the previous owner 4 years ago. Had it not been 6 weeks after buying my C500 I'd have jumped on it then.

hotrod98

At 40K, I would give serious thought to buying it.
I would have to drive up to Ozark to look at it first.

How about some tossed rolls at Lambert's for lunch Stuart?  ;D

well i pretty much had the car bought. and got cold feet/chickened out. i even sent a deposit on it. if anyone wants it they better hurry. he is willing to take $45k cash, which is probably a steal. i just need to get the house built first.. just wanted to pass the info along

I hate to hear that you backed out. You could have stopped by and picked me up on the way up there to get it. I know some great restauarants in the Ozark area.
I've decided not to buy any big ticket items right now.
Right now I have two very nice roadrunners that are going to be available to me to purchase and they're priced right. One is a 69 vitamin c car that I painted a couple of years ago and the other is a 70 limelight 4 speed. I think I'll save the money for the runners.

I offered them $37.5k like two weeks ago and they weren't interested... so the $45k sounds about right (and a steal at that)... I started calling a few shops that knew the car and the prices they were quoting ridiculous prices to get it back together because they knew the condition - I just don't have the motivation to start a project of this magnitude (but would love to say I own a real Daytona!)

Just not worth it in this environment to start a $150-200k resto when you can find nice completed cars in that price range...

Same here. I weighed the options...two finished runners or one bad to the bone real Daytona project...the lazy way wins...two runners.  ;D

well i'm kind of glad i didn't get it. it has now sold. someone in NY bought it from what i am told. $43k. it ended up having a bad frame rail. not that it matters THAT much considering the work it needs anyway, but i woul dhave been furious if i had drove that far only to find out it had a bad frame after being told it was rust free.. ah well. maybe one day i'll get one

Glad someone bought it. Every few days, I would think about how maybe I should drive up and look at it.
