WIW - Daytona Nose Cone & 'Z' Braces...

When I purchased my Daytona in the late 1980s, the entire frontend sheetmetal  of the car was missing.  I later acquired a very nice set of 1970 Charger fenders & hood to convert, as well as a mint set of fender scoops.  I am still missing the entire nose assembly, although I picked up Larry's repro nose brackets for the car.  I have been planning to buy a reproduction metal nose & related parts (Z braces, headlight buckets, etc), but have held off in the hope better reproductions would come out.  The parts recently on eBay peaked my interest...

A long-time friend offered to sell me some original Daytona parts:

1) A pair (L&R) of Daytona 'Z' Braces (nose cone 'ribs'), in nice condition, but with small access holes cut in flat areas of each (should be easily repaired).

2) A nice used original Daytona nose shell with minimal body filler for earlier damage...

...OR, a NOS Daytona nose shell  (He will keep one of the nose cones and sell the other).

WIW: 1) Pair of used Z braces needing minor repair
         2) Used nose cone needing minor repair
         3) NOS nose cone

As I said, he is a friend and I want to pay a price that reflects current fair market value for these parts...

Sorry, no pictures of the parts at the moment... here is a old photo of my Daytona tho...

Thanks for your help,

Allen

i like your license plate #.

Its an old scan with the license plates "photoshopped"... so many ways to track down someone now-a-days that I don't bother doing it any more...  ;)

I would say 5000.00

For the Z braces & either nose cone... or a nose cone alone?  Sounds a bit low, I think the JM reproduction nose cones are higher.

Thanks for the input Stuart!

I had seen that Great Lakes nose on display last year at Carlisle - but it has since sold.  Gregg didn't tell me who bought it, where it went, or how much it sold for (nor did I ask).  It was a complete nose though, including complete headlamp assemblies, all the rubber air seal flaps around the radiator/fender closures, etc.  I wasn't looking to spend that kind of coin since all of my original metal/fiberglass can be re-used, but there were some components on that nose that just flat can't be found anymore.  DAMHIK...

My guess (which is worth exactly what you're paying for it, BTW) is $1-2k for the Z Braces, and $7-9k for the NOS nose shell.  $5-7k for the used nose if you went that direction, perhaps?

Still just a guess...

NOS is nice but repop Z braces are a grand and they're perfect and you barely see them.

i would say 7-9 on the NOS shell is right (because of the mystique surrounding the WORD NOS) while $4k would be a fair offer on the used one.

...maybe not

...looks like parts do get around  :yesnod:

The cutouts are larger than I expected, plus additional notches on the top flange... still very repairable, but probably twice the work that I expected.  I still plan to buy them... any new input on Fair Market Value would be appreciated... Don't know about the ones on e-bay, but I'm really happy with the set that I bought from Mike at Dayclona.
Since taking over Dayclone completely, his prices are much better as well.

Thanks for the $ value input Stuart...  I am going to try to use as many original parts as possible on the Daytona, but it is great to have good options!  I will be getting good repros for my Daytona clone project.

Still just a guess...

:Twocents:

I think the nose cone that GLNOS has/had was purchased from Joel Cox for $3,500 with light damage from back in the day that he repaired.  Joel replaced his original nose in 1972 with an NOS piece that cost him $125.
