sound5262

thanks, been along time coming. say one when i was 8 years old always wanted one since then.janak is doing the kit for me. having a local guy install everything. he has a bird light blue. bought it new. was told by chyrsler that he is one of two that are original owners. have not been able to find the front parking lights wbezels, any suggestions?

nascarxx29

The front parking lights assemblys used for the superbird are from a 70 Fury. The lenses are clear.Other parts are on various sites.I think Eric Nelson had the turn signal frames in metal .The metal turn signal mounting brackets were at dayclona or www.wingcarfab.com Erik Nelson

Very nice looking car to start with.

Your buddy who is the original owner of a Bird is also a very lucky individual. There is another original owner of a bird that post on here. Talkiemopar (Rick)

yea that car is sweet. there's a lot of 70 satellites out there  that would make a great bird clone ..be a shame to take apart an original roadrunner .  :Twocents:

I agree use a satelite , dont use that awesome runner  :Twocents: :Twocents:  that runnner is way to nice to clone .

GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

69_500

Is the car above a RR or a Satelite that  has already been cloned into a RR, that will be cloned into a Superbird?

sound5262

the car is an original rr 383 4speed airgrabber w/date coded 440 6 pack in it now. bought it that way. sole purpose was to clone that one into a superbird.

sound5262

just a thought.....the pistol grip that on the car i made. it's real black walnut. took me 4 hours to do. the grip is much better than the plastic one that came on the car. i have some more block peices if anybody else is interested in doing the same. all you need is a gig saw, a dremel tool, and sand paper. oh yea, poly to seal it. let me know. give me a call 828-777-7214 i'll send it to you. no charge. thanks for the interest in the car. steve

sell the road runner for good money, buy a satellite and keep the change.

nascarxx29

:Twocents: The only advantages by starting with a road runner is engine trans.4 speed rear leaf springs H-D susp disc brakes power steering radiator/opening .The larger rallye instrument cluster and entire rallye dash frame and wiring harness. And if you already have a optional bucket seat/ or console car.If you stay with the bench/recover it. .Also the tail lights and tail light harness are different than satelitte. And a satellite will need all the exterior mouldings and hardware removed

What about interior trim levels?

nascarxx29

:shruggy: good ? Also the glove box differs I recall and the plastic piece under the steering column is different. And piece over the glove box and the interior mouldings .I was lucky to have a 70 RR rolling body right beside .To the 70 FM3 satelitte conv. That became the superbird convertible .

It'll be a shame to see a real Road Runner in good condition altered that way but it's just my opinion and not my car.  Good luck with your project.

I know its a nice car as it is.Just looking at the pros and cons RR VS Satelitte. The RR is a big head start..

Yes it is a good start, and it can be difficult to make a decision on what to do.

I have a rust free excellent 70 GTX  which is currently sitting in primer, ready to be painted. All number matching B7 440 auto car with power windows.

The dilemma;
I want a 70 Superbird more than a GTX. Unfortunately most of the decent Satellites I have found have been in the 4-6K range and would still need additional body repairs, + the above mentioned conversion items (dash, column shift, etc.). I am not a bodyman and that portion of the project would have to be farmed out. I have gotten to the point that I would have nearly the same money in prepping a Satellite for my bird conversion, as I already have in my GTX, which is ready to go.

I would really hate to "cut up" a GTX (or RR), but in the long run it would definitely save me time and would not be much different in costs.

In the back of my head I keep hearing voices preventing me from using the GTX, thinking how cool it would be to have a GTX and bird. But in reality, I know I will only get one done. (time and money issue)

Selling all my current toys to build a Twin Turbo Superbird clone "street" car.

I would not cut up that car way way way to nice...keep looking..there is a 70 satellite out there :scratchchin:

yea there should be some body grubbing (you know what) on this site with a extra body just waiting to come on down and be a Superbird! You know the one you will never build, don't work on and can't remember the last time you Sat in it! theres my Rant for the Cause. Good luck with your hunt for a body. Have a great new year All.

nascarxx29

Was wondering what decision you finally came to .If you save all the road runner parts are store and not sell ,Then your only putting wing holes on this road runner
