Question about steering column disassembly

Hey guys, I just got inside from taking the steering column out of my 68. I used the search function on this site to get the removal directions (thanks guys!!) I did not start disassembling it yet, but I noticed in the shop manual as part of the disassembly process that a certian "operating lever" for the back up light switch that has to be destroyed in order to get it out. I was just wondering if this is the case or if you guys have forund away around that. If not, can a new one be purchased relatively easy? I did a quick search on year one and couldnt seem to find it. Thanks in advance for the help
