I heard a story of a fellow out in British Columbia who died a few years ago and had a Black Hemi. I think his name was Brian with a french sounding last name beginning with a D i believe. I tried all I could to contact his family. Some dude out there was trying to sell it for all the wood ++ so he could get another car he had for free.

hemigeno

Jim,

You haven't heard of a fella by the name of Ryan Dedeaux have you?  I have a reason for asking...

maxwellwedge

I think the last name I was trying to remember was Delanger or something like that. I can't say I know your guy.

Delangchamps?

Way off the beaten path here but I thought I had heard a number for black daytona's being over 10, and after about 45 minutes of searching through papers here on the desk, letters, and other things I finally found it and I'm sad to say I spent that much time looking.

all the info I can find says 9, with only one exception. A note from Mike from Dayclona saying that they made 15. Anyone else heard this?

You nailed it.

Was drag raced  by them very early on, and then later drag raced by others.

This is what it used to look like.

Not many black ones out there.   I only have 6 recorded in the registry, but I'm sure there are a few more that I just don't have color information recorded.

V2 Hemi Orange is the most common Daytona color with 70 cars registered so far.
R4 red is second most common Daytona color with 69 cars registered.
R6 which is more of a blood red is quite rare with only 6 registry entries.

I have not compared these numbers to Galen's list that he published around 1992.    If someone has that, please chime in.   You can get an idea of the percentages involved with the above numbers.

As a side note here I notice that in 92 GG had 37 hemis known back then, coincidentally very similar to the # of J-code's showing up on the relatively recent release of a shipping list. Interestingly enough the 33 or so J-code VIN's that do not show up on the shipping list have not seem to have surfaced on any other "lists". I have always believed the "70" # but what paperwork did it originate from?

69_500

Anyone else notice that the number of Daytona's known as far as engine break down vastly outnumbers the number of known in the color bracket as well? I know that for the information I have on 500's it is like that, due to not knowing for certain what colors the 500's came in originally. But I notice that in his list he breaks down what transmission is for each engine for a number more than he has for colors. Just wondering how one would know for sure unless they were all numbers matching cars? Because it is possible to weld in a 4 speed hump floor pan, and have it go unnoticed.

Here is one on display at Wellington Motors in Guelph, Ontario.

XX29L9B379741 440 AT X9 Black and very good chance the Pace car dated Oct 69 from Hutton Dodge XX29J9B383268 426 4 speed blk interior

Dave,  The '79 WW had 379741 listed as a "Gold Metallic" car (Y4?), and 383268 as a B5 Blue car.  Were these actually X9?  Any tag information to confirm these changes?  The other cars you've listed are the same as I have recorded.

Has it been definately concluded that 383268 is the Radke Correct coded X9 car in England,And what about Elmer D 379741 car .Is it the pace car and X9

Wow you guys are good. I talked to the long time owner on a few times over the years. The car was F8 and then white and now the black as it is today. I can't remember all the details but I think he resprayed it black at least twice?
Anyway it sold to the dealership late summer or fall of this past year.
Cool car for sure, and a another nice Daytona owner! :2thumbs:
