Ground out a couple hundred spot welds and the new roof showed up today from AMD.  I have to say its very nice with only a couple small stamping flaws.  My new drip rails are here tomorrow so I shoudl be able to get the roof clamped down and welded to the car this weekend.  THis is a HUGE milestone on this project.  I have been working a whole 2 weeks on it!   :icon_smile_tongue:

Thanks,
Jon

WOW...that roof was shot!

ACUDANUT

That's what happens when you put cloth on a roof to rot

Thanks! I just picked up the car in Jacksonville on Craigslist. It was a complete running car and almost rust free underneath. The roof was the worst of it, so the first thing I will tackle. Needs a trunk, but thats it. I am gonna spray it the original green color and put it back to original, minus the vinyl top..... 383 auto, AC car. I love it! I will have lots of questions because this is my first Mopat. I have restored many GM's over the years. 71 Buick GS Vert and a 83 Regal Wagon 464 big block are my other cars.  This is the first car whete parts are available! LOL!

I hear ya, my Buick GS has very little repops for it. I learned how to make my own panels out of neccessity. I will be rust proofi.g it some, but this thing wont be seeing much weather.

nice one!  I am in the same boat right now, I have been griding all the rust off of the frame structure.  Hopefully, if I can get a day of descent weather, I will be out there clamping mine down also!

We put AMD draip rails and a roof skin on mt 70. Had to trim the edge on both sides it was like the roof skin was too wide.

Ghoste

The AMD one looks good on there.  I suppose a few stamping flaws are a small price to pay to be rid of that ugly looking rot.

charger_fan_4ever

I'm amazed the front and rear inner roof bows are not rotted. My roof wasn't as bad as yours and we had to change the front section from a donor satelite and the rear upper I got threw AMD.

Hey Charger fsn, I am cutting out the drip rails right now anticipating the new ones tomorrow. I cant get a good pic of the drip rails to know if they include the pinchweld that is perpendicular to the floor. Obvious all the spot weld on the underside come out, but does the new panel look identical to the orig?

Thanks,
Jon

I mentioned this to the AMD reps at Carlisle several years ago. I did find a difference between the 71 and 72. Location and angle of the area for the shoulder harness bolt was slightly different.
